Urinary tract infection

Post by Houndswoman »

Just wanted to pass on this experience:

Patient: Walker female

Age: 7 months

Symptoms: Trying to urinate very frequently with very little urine coming out; no other obvious sign of illness

Diagnosis: possible urinary tract infection

Diagnosis by: myself, not the vet

Treatment: 500mg Amoxicillin, 2 times per day for two weeks

Result: Never became ill; urinating normally within a few days

I was thinking that if everyone posted information regarding what their dogs were going through in the same manner it would be very helpful to everyone.

Of particular interest to us are the symptoms, whether a vet diagnosed the dog and what the course of treatment was (i.e., medication, rate of). I try to write down as much information as possible regarding when a particular medication is prescribed and for what reason.

Other information that I would be interested in is the result of any blood tests (i.e., what the various blood levels showed). I always ask for a copy of the blood test results (afterall I paid for it) to study and compare to the information I have of normal blood levels for dogs. Normal blood levels for dogs are available on the internet to be able to compare to.

Good luck.

Yup, good call.

May have been vaginitis, but with either diagnosis the treatment remains the same.
