Best bobcat breed??

I know it really all depends on the praticular dog not really the breed. but i am curious what you guys think the best breed is for bobcat hunting ( treeing, tracking, cold nose, etc.) i live in oregon so bears and long tails are outta the question.

Questions like this can evoke an emotionaly charged discourse. Everybody has a favorite hound or breed or whatever, and it is a good thing for all of us that we do have different opinions so things remain interesting.

A couple of facts just to help get things started. The best bobcat dog I have ever owned was a grade female that was about 1/2 walker and had some bluetick and I would guess bloodhound on the other side. She was very cold nosed, very,very fast on track, and a super locater. So that could slant my opinion to beleive that grade crosses are the bulk of the best for bobbers. Well that ain't excactly the question.What BREED was the questions.

The hands down winner on this regardless if you love em or hate em is treeing walkers. Yep, sorry but tis a fact, about 8 out of every 10 bobcat dogs, real bobcat dogs are walkers or are made up of a large percentage of walker blood. Another fact you must consider is Treeing Walkers out number all other registered tree hounds by a wide margin.

Do all treeing walkers make bobcat dogs. Heaven's no, dang few do, but even so there will be more walkers than any other out there. Why? Seems they just fit the criteria needed better than the others to a larger degree. Most bobcats dogs come from a strain of walkers that have been picked primarliy for the traits it takes to get them slipperly bobtailed little farts up a tree, and that is no easy task. Lots of coon dogs can't tree a cat, lots of bear dogs can't tree a cat, lots of lion dogs can't tree a cat. Just a fact, and I am sure not saying that the best world beater bobcat dog in this whole country is not a redbone, or a black and tan or a bluetick or plott or what ever, but by in large the Treeing Walker has many more true bobcat hounds within the breed than the others.

So now that everybody is mad at me, go ahead and tell me about old Never Failed and we will get the ball rolling. LOL!

mike i agree i hunt blueticks but i do have 1 walker dog. the majority of hounders out there hunt walkers, i have heard havnt seen very much but heard alot about the grade dogs turning out to be really good cat dogs. especialy when its mixed with a little bluetick. but for sure the walkers out number all other breeds in the bobcat world i personally like blueticks so thats what i hunt mainly they seem to suit me very nicley. and i get my far amount of game with them grantit they are still young but it just seems like everyone jumped on the walker ban wagon in my area everyone hunts them things LOL

i have been chaseing these dang ghosts for a long time,too the point of adiction,i have dumped out about every breed,about every strain of so called cat dogs and first off i learned bobcat dogs seam to be real regional,how many times does a good ol boy that stacks them in like cord wood at home sells that same dog across the country and can barly find the food dish,or it takes for ever to aclamate too the new suroundings,so when looking for one look for dogs that come from a simaler enviroment (unless you get one from Mike,they can do it on the moon,lol) and cats act difrent around the country,so take that into acount as well,i like to start with cat minded dogs,like the pup that seems to be more pissed off by the house cat than the rest off the litter,which realy don't mean much either in cat hunting,but its some where to start,cat dogs are weird,i mean the real cat dogs thatwould rather run cats than eat,they think difrently than other dogs they seam to have a deeper thought prosses than the average Good hound that trees cats now and than i don't know if smarter is the term but a difrent kind off smart,you can breed 2 totaly awsome cat dogs together and not get cat dogs,its a tough game in most parts off the country,i here about how easy they are here or there and they never jump,wow i want to move there,here its an all day afair,conditions suck,cats are majic,and not enough roads to get close most the time. so i need a dog that hates cats to death,can grub out an old cold one,keep quiet enough to catch up,and do this at lazer speed to put enough presure to make them even look at a tree,than if its good enough to push it up a tree it than needs to tree like a squirel dog back off the wood holding eye contact with the beast,than and only than will it hold and stay long enough to get to the tree,now all that said i have a walker dog that can and will get it done,but hounds seem to to be real inconsitant in the reproduceing of "real" cat dogs,now before yall come to my house with torches and pitch forks think about it,we all seen that real cat dog that could just do it easy right,now out of all those how many truely reproduced"real" cat dogs,i'm not talking about all the bang up big game pups they produced,i'm talking cat crazy slightly nerotic "real" cat dogs,people been chaseing this around since the dawn of time,and no one has perfected it yet,close but not yet,for the man that can constantly raise pups that a high number turn out to be true cat dogs that can get it done everywhere,will die a rich man,now i personaly have found sevral "catdogs" in the Jug strain of the leopard curs,they just are working here in my area,will they work in yours? maybe not,but its worth a try,good luck but know that this is long and sometimes unprofitable road yer looking down

I never caught a lot of bobcats until I started hunting English dogs. They helped teach all of the dogs that came behind them the ropes.

I figure if I could stand them walkers a little more, I'd probably be able to catch more cats. But it Feels like they're always wired up and on Crack... at least that's the feeling I get when I'm around most of them.

Is that considered Profiling???.. probably.. .. but I guess that's falls into the idea of this thread . I've seen a few walkers that I "think" I would enjoy having.. But more that I wouldn't enjoy so much..

I dont know alot about cat hunting, but i think a well bred Bluetick Walker crossbred hound could make an epic cat dog.
