This cat was 164 on a certified meat scale his skull was 15 1/8 green and 14 3/4 official Boon and Crocket. This is the Largest cat I have seen in person. A very good friend of mine killed one a long time ago down by jarbridge I think that was 181. I am 6'1 and weigh about 240 when this pic was taken in dec 2003. There might be some 200 lb cats but they are rare, and I would love to see one.

Its nice to hear that most of you guys have never seen that 200lb cat, that make my odds of getting him go up because he is still out there.

their are freakishly big game animals out there just like there are freakishly big people in this world . so to think there isnt a huge cat out there is narrow minded in my opinion. 800 pound black bears have been harvested in the last few years here on the east coast. thats almost twice as big as any black bear ive seen, but it doesnt mean they dont exist.

I think those freakish bears were fed to be that big. i'm sure if we kept a lion in a zoo and fed him weight gainer 2000 from gnc and donuts we could get him over the 250 lb mark, but that doesn't mean we're gana find him like that in nature. Most studies or info that I have read on cougars will say that a mature female is 100lbs and a mature tom is 130 lbs. I'm gona stay just a little narrow minded cuz If I don't I'll be out there trying to tree sasquatch. nobody has ever harvested one, but that don't mean they're not there  congrats to those who have tickled and even broken the 200lb mark, because most will not. also if you become a member of boone and crockett you get to look at everything in the book back to the early 1900's. the 16" skull that came out of utah held the world record for alot of years. then a brittish columbia cat bareley beat it. I guess my point is that a 16" cat is the genetic freak that you are talking about. only been a few ever to hit that mark. why then do we have to add an inch to that and say 17?

I've heard of 2 cats that had their shooters claiming 16" skulls this year, one came out of the Missoula mngmnt area and was spose to be 180 some lbs, the other was probably a 125-130lb tom that i saw sprawled out across the tailgate outside the bar. Sure to the average guy walking by on the sidewalk the wool can be pulled right over his eyes, but somebody has got to shut these idiots up! Funny how the equivalent of the spider bull in the lion world gets killed several times a season, the world record is 16 4/16, Mt has never had a 16" skull recorded! I get a kick out of the fwp scales getting used (I have yet to get fwp to weigh a lion for me, I ask every time) The monster cat south of helena in question was recorded as a yearling on the check in sheet, that doesn't mean anything cause wardens are not very bright on the subject, just sayin fwp's info isn't very reliable. Big is big and the trained eye can see if its big or not, anything over 150 is big! Funny how these cats grow over the years, I have seen the scaled weight on cats, then hear a different weight from the guy that was standing right next to me at the time, a year later. I know if its big or not, weight is something I'm not gonna believe til i see it, but I know if its in the ballpark most of the time, its embarrassing to see guys try to BS their way past that fact. I guess while I'm on my little rant, I'm sure Phil Soucy is gonna appreciate his phone ringing off the hook(his time probably isn't very important to him) from a bunch of randoms wanting to know if he has the new state record....is Phil an official measurer and has the skull dried yet, can he really even give a definative answer to that question yet????

I have killed a big animal, not a huge cat at this point, and maybe i never will. When you kill something bigger than the average guy has, it is crazy the stories you here. It must just be that most people act like a bunch of kids fighting over crap when a guy has a bit of luck. you would not believe the crap they make up, not even close to the way it happend. And they usualy say you cheated some how. :beer Just glad that I don't do this to make all of them happy, I do it for myself, as i am sure who ever killed the cat in the pic does.

This is only the second time Ive posted on this site this year and its funny its basically saying the same thing as last time. I dont know whats wrong with a lot of you guys if its just jealosy or if your offended that I take this sport seriously and am somewhat successful at it or if your just a bunch of women who have nothing better to do. As for those of you with good things to say I appreciate it. For the rest of you I can always count on a few of you to say something completely ignorant. I figured it was only a matter of time before these pictures made it on here everybody I see or talk to seems to have seen these lions, I dont believe I have tried to mislead anyone on the size of these lions. The bottom lion is my personal lion it weighed 165 pounds and green scores right at 15". As for the top lion he weighed in at 187 pounds and green scores right at 15 3/4" so he may or may not make the new state record only time will tell. I caught him for a friend of mine who doesnt have dogs but I personally would consider him a better houdsman and much harder hunter than 80 percent of the guys on this site. As for the 200 pound lion myth, I dont know but I do know that I have caught and killed several big lions and I hunt with guys that have been in the game for over 20 years and have killed several lions in the record book and none of them have weighed ove 170 pounds until this lion. So all I have to say is if you have killed lions that you are claiming are 180 pounds or bigger my guess is I should see your name in the top 20 in the world record book. As for my friends lion in this picture like I said it was 187 pounds was shot by a man by the name of Jeff Ingram and will be either #1 or #2in the montana book only time will tell, 60 day drying period is not over yet. Once again my best advice to most of you is if you want to catch a lot of cats or kill big cats or have good dogs your time is better spent somewhere besides on the computer telling everybody how great you are and how guys like me who hunt all night long and then run cats with my dogs all day long and then do it over again and again with little or no sleep are somehow screwing you lazy bastards over. If you want to be a pussy just keep your mouth shut, if you want to catch pussy it cant be done on here

I only wiegh my cats on a cabelas scale so maybe that doesn't count. But let me tell you something, heavy cats do not mean big skulls. The world record cat was shot down the road from my house and wieghed less then 150lb. My biggest cat last year I couldn't wiegh but was a far bit heavier then the 184lb cat we killed and had a green skull of 15 4/16. The 184 cat had the biggest skull 15 10/16 but had no fat but a full belly. The next week we killed a 168lb cat with some fat but totally empty it had a 15 1/16 skull. Both toms that just squeeked in the book had 6 inch wide skullls which is narrow for a book tom in my neck of the woods. You never know what the wieght will be when they hit the ground but soon learn not to guess after wieghing a bunch. A good tom is a mature tom in fact now adays when looking for my own cat I look for age in a cat not so much size. Both those toms are dandy toms, don't worry about the negetive chit chat.

Porkchop at 6' 4" your way to big to be holding up a cat, next time try kneeling and just say the snow was deep :D That cats a toad but your a big'un to. Next time you get a dandy cat give me a call and Ill come hold it up for you. With my 5' 8" frame itll look like the next world record, Ive never killed a cat that didnt look huge  I dont think people were dissing your cats jim, just the myth of the cat 250+ pound cats with 17" skulls.

a taxidermist around my area that has hunted with me a few times, say he had a cat brought in that he green scored at 16. about 2 months ago. So the top end of the MT books could see some changes.

From what I was told by the guy who killed the cat on top is it weighed 188, 15 10/16 green.I did not see the skull, but feel I can tell you within 1/16 of what it will net from examining a cougar skull. The state record would be for archery if it goes over 15 7/16. The other cat is for sure a different cat and I would guess not as big. There are things to look for when sizing up a cat in photo. How big is the guy holding it, how high is he holding it and is the cat's butt off the ground? Really big toms have really big hams. Of course they don't have to be big to score well.
