Bull terriers
Bull terriers
Sorry I don't hog hunt but like to read along. I don' see Bull Terriers mentioned much. Are they used on hogs. There is a pretty impressive Bull Terrier on youtube in a bull fight ring. Terry
Re: Bull terriers
only heard of one used in the USA. mostly too short & fat to work. some crossbreds still used in OZ i think.
Re: Bull terriers
Thanks for the reply Pops. I watched a brindle female save some fool's bacon in a bull ring and it was impressive.

Re: Bull terriers
yes pops thats right not to many pigdogs in this country that do donot have bull terrier some where in their make up, we had very athletic types back in the 70s and many were tried as pur breds however they were found to be more suited and less likely to cause a dog fight when crossed with what ever anyone thought might make a pigdog.

Re: Bull terriers
I have a blind miniture bull terrier that will strike a coon from the rig. He figures he's in the game that way I guess. He's not much in a fight though. He seems to enjoy letting the other animal slash and bite him. He'll stay right in its face until they get tired of it. He can take a beating. His head has been inside a pits mouth when the pit wanted my dogs bone. Pit wanted the bone more than his head. He can smell a mole through the ground and dig it up and kill it. My bull terrier has almost no endurance. His back feet get tired watching his front feet take a step.

I watched it again and the dog probably is cross bred or some spanish version. In another one they show the dog and it has a bull terrier head http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5f9CtnF5grM

Pretty impressive grit from that dog. He was taking a real pounding and didn't let go. Hard to tell exactly what he was, but I really admire a dog like that.
Re: Bull terriers
i've seen the video and it looks like a pure bullterrier. yeah the tough little bugger gets slung around pretty hard and still hangs like a tick. good little dog.

Re: Bull terriers
I know a freind of mine in fl runs a pure bull terrier for a catch dog, a guy in califronia does and so do a few people here and there. Most are to show dog to do it.
But if you got a pup and make sure he stayed fit he could so it

Re: Bull terriers
the guy in FL is the only one i've heard of. i think more could especially since most guys use leashed catch dogs. but why bother when they don't bring anything to the table that a pit does at 1/5 the price or even less. i think price tag is the only thing holding them back here.
