grawes is what i heard was the best. i never did get any yet but if you want it to be the good stuff go with grawes. it will also help if you have any buddies that hunt bobcat and will let you take your pups so they can get the ropes. i know in the UP of mi bobcat is about the hardest critter to run but by far the funnest. im hoping that my dog will make it as a cat dog one day.

Training scents are very little like the real thing. They are useful for teaching somethings but they are not the real thing. Most of my cat dogs will not give it a second smell, they just smell and go on hunting. If your dogs are trained on it and will run anything they will trail it. Dewey

A towl in a Live trap with a BobCat in it. You can cut the towl in sections and freeze them.

Grawes only uses bobcat scent glands in his training scents not pi$$ like everyone else, the only thing better than Grawes training scent is a live Bobcat

Try obtain a wild bobcat if you can legally do so. Build about a 3mx3m enclosure for it and a small undercover shelter for it within the enclosure for it to retreat to.That way you have the real deal to experiment with.

I have recently been able to aquire some Cameron x Smokey river pups and this is how I intend starting them.

Once I feel they ready for trailing work I want to use a live lynx under more or less controlled circumstances.

On a cool windless night with a garmin DC 30 collar on the live lynx I'll release it in a nicely wooded area. I'll have collars on two veteran hounds and on no more than two pups. I'll let the old dogs start the trail and feed in the youngsters. You can monitor the trail left by the cat on your screen as well as that of the hounds in relation to that of the cat.At a point in this programme when you're comfortable that your pups are trailing consistent you can reverse the roles and start the trail with them having the old dogs there as back up if needed.

Now this I've not put to practise yet but I'm willing to bet a good dollar on it that once you've tried it a few times to straighten out a few logistical hitches it may prove to be a worthy and realistic way to train hounds. You got figure out how you going to recapture the bobcat and take him into custody to use another day !! We'll grab em and bag em. Yup there will be a few scratches and bites but its all part of the fun.

I have used the collars when laying drags and they are are extremely valuable and work wonderfully as the drag layer will use a collar to lay out the drag line so you can watch the hounds in relation to the drag line on the screen. Also you can see what hounds are riding taxi and what hounds are working and who gets to the tree and stays at the tree.

The garmin is a fantastic tool for any houndsman to use. Had a glitch with one DC 40 collar otherwise they are okay. No problems with the DC 30 collars.

I used grawes, its the best. Its raw, un-tweaked, non-diluted scent. I love it, live by it and have had excellent results.

Grawes has worked VERY well on the bear side so I would trust it for cats.

I keep the scent in the canister it came in and I retape it everytime I open it to keep it sealed . I also keep it in a paper sack for darkness.
