Source for very nice Blowing Horns

Post by Dads dogboy »

Folks,

A while back Shorty and I were talking about Blowing Horns…the type many Hunters used to call their Hounds in times past. They have become hard to find in the past decade as the folks who made them have been dying off…it soon will be a lost Art.

When I posted some Pics of some of Dad’s collection of Horns, Mr. Stuckey contacted me for more information about Horns as he was starting to make some. Now lots of folks get the Idea to try something and just can not get the hang of it and quit…well Mr. Stuckey was just the opposite.

He made me a Horn that not only is a work of Art but blows darn nice. Here are some Photos of his work. My Horn will be displayed not carried but it Blows easy and has a tone that carries very well.

Here is a Video of the Horn and a very poor effort to blow it. I am waiting on some new upper teeth and could not purse my lips to get a good blow!

A couple more Pics of Mr. Stuckey’s Art work!

The Mouth piece is the critical part in making a Horn Blow…Mr. Stuckey has that figured out!

Here is Mr. Stuckey’s contact info. He will build you either a display Horn or a usable one to carry, either way having one will be a treasure that is hard to get these days!

Sweet looking horn Mr Clay, I posted a ways back inquiring about horns and you posted up some of yours past and present.
Someone also posted a good read about the differences between a real English fox horn and the junk type. I now own a real copper and nickle horn
and have had great success recalling the hounds with it, I am still looking for a functional animal hound horn. and am pleased that Mr Stuckey is producing some.
My hounds respond very well to the horn, I am at the point now that I am trying out different calls to mean different things to them.
Well at least that's my plan, Beats the heck out of hollering or honking the vehicle horn, sort of pleasing to the ear like hound music!
I plan to contact Mr Stuckey for a functional hunting horn, Take care Ken Santoro

A note to let people know about these horns. They are made from longhorn x corriente horns. most are from 10 to twelve inches in length with a six inch bell or base.
Utility horns with no art work are priced at $150.00 plus five dollars shipping in the U.S.A.
Horns with art work ( Usually a hunting scene with hounds ). This horn is priced at $250.00 plus the shipping.
I can put about any sort of scene you would like. They are done with pencil and overlaid with poly-urethane to seal and waterproof. The colored scenes are done with crayon and sealed the same.
International orders are shipped fed-ex and the cost varies and it isn't cheap.
pm me, for orders or call at 806-348-7082 Thanks for your time. Don

I would post pic's but I'm not smart enough to figure out the posting process. url and http's are above my computer skills.

I've started custom making matched sets of horns . One being a blowing horn and one a black powder horn. These are matched horns from the same animal. I just need to know which side you shoot from or your loading hand.
The price is the same as before stated. Example -- as close as I can get them , matched pair $500.00 plus the shipping. All natural products including the glue.
call or pm your orders for Christmas now, so I'll have time to finish them. Thanks for your time. Don

I've wanted a blowing horn for a long time, so when I saw these I decided to buy one.
Don did a terrific job, mine has some nice coon tracks and my name for art work.
He made it promptly and it was delivered fast and packed well. I'd highly recommend his work
whether it be for in the field or for display. Now I just need to learn how to blow it correctly !

I thought with Mr. Clay's other topic it would be appropriate to bump this back to the top again.

Thanks to all who who have viewed, purchased and responded to this topic. I can't thank dads dog boy, big n blue along with Shorty enough for their word of mouth help. I am full time sculpting now , the lion and hounds sculpture is titled " bluffed " it is going to the foundry tomorrow, not sure who is bluffed, the lion, the hounds or the whole group. It is an edition of 20. The numbers 1-3-19 & 20 are sold. next sculpture will be " escape by a hare " two greyhounds, a staghound and a jack rabbit in one heck of a tangle with the rabbit winning.
Thanks again 'till your better paid. Don
