I have not had any trouble in over a year with burning up a unit. I think they may have got the problem fixed.
Our group purchased 4 new units this year and they are all still doing good.
Anyone else notice this or are there sill people out there having trouble.
Damaging Garmin with Marine radios and Motorola's
Re: Damaging Garmin with Marine radios and Motorola's
garmin did add some technical thingamabob to help minimize this issue, but it can still be a problem with radios that are jacked up way past 25 watts (i know many guys who do this to their radios).
the only problem is that if you buy the older model 220 new (there are lots of them still floating around out there) you have no idea what the date of manufacture is, so there is a possibility that you might have an older production unit that didnt get the hardware improvement.
the only way to be absolutely sure is to buy the 320.
