wolves in Utah

Post by Cosmo »

I just want to give you guys a heads up about reports of wolves around the strawberry area. I would be really bad if someone turned loose on a big track they thought was a lion and it turned out to be a wolf not thinking that they are in Utah. Make sure you know what you are turning loose on. I'd carry a riffle with you while your cutting just in case you see a big coyote. Go to www.monstermuleys.com in the mule deer section for more info. I saw a track in the mud that made me a believer while I was elk hunting. Good luck hunting.

No mistaking a wolf and coyote track, they just don't build coyotes that big. Even a wolf pup that is 4-6 months old will dwarf the biggest coyotes out there. Remember when dealing with wolves the three S's. Shoot... shoot... and shoot some more!!!

I was hunting in central Oregon and cut where a pack had crossed road recently! What the shit. I didn't believe it at first but an old timer from Montana was with me and he was horrified. Said came from Montana to get away from them bastards. The next morning coming up the road we unloaded dogs to collar up and heard them howling down the valley. Didn't know they had entered Oregon yet.

Casey,

There are several major groups of wolves within two hours of my house I know of. Imnaha, Wenaha, Mt. Emily, Keating, Minam, Sled Springs and Catherine creek units. All these units I've seen tracks or read in the paper about. Not all these have full packs but have several wolves in them not together yet. And its only going to get worse, I can still pretty much avoid most of these packs at the moment.

Yeah I think I've read about them coming into the state but crazy ! Hope they don't end up bad here in wa. Yet they have planted six packs here or planning on it soon if not yet. I'll avoid that area now

If you have any doubt that your looking at a wolf track or not just measure the stride. Measure from left to the next left track (heel to heel) or right to right. Most wolves will be 50 inches or over when trotting. A big tom lion will be just over 40. My best measurement on a wolf here in Oregon has been 57 inches.

I have one big hound that might make 40.

I have emailed my senators and congressmen on this problem and cant get an answer'
If the wolves were to be in yellowstone let them stay there.
Utah has an area in the northern part of the state where they are delisted a rancher can shoot them there if bothering livestock anywhere else in the state he has to watch them kill his sheep or cows.
Now there trying to get a season on them here.
I cant see how a few people could force there will on so many
As for me its the three Ss.
