Tennessee Hoggers

Postby dc-tennessee » Tue Feb 21, 2012 3:00 pm

Just wondering if anyone knows the TWRA's plans for next years hog season. Myself and two of my coon hunting partners were looking into getting into hog hunting and we were really stoked untill this seasons hunting guide came out with a ban on all hog huntin unless you know someone with private property with hogs they will let you hunt [which we dont] or can wait for Catoosa's short season which to us does not justify investing in a pack of dogs to feed and care for for an intire year. We would still love to get into the sport for enjoyment and to put food on the table but we wont even consider it if the all mighty TWRA wont get off there ass' long enough to see they really screwed up. I mean, two or three years ago I had to drive two or more hours to get into hog country. Now I have just spent three night in a row just thirty minutes from my house calling my coon hounds off of pigs and im getting tired of it. You all know how fast a hog can pick up and go espesially at night with only a couple hounds that expect whatever they are runnig to shoot up a tree and wait for em. Its begining to make for long nights and long walks through the woods just to call em off. Most of the places we hunt are walk in only and if im gonna be chasing a hog anyways I'd like to put a bullet in it and have something to show for it.

No hunting in catoosa anymore either. I hope they take over, I wouldnt kill a hog in Tn for it. Now I give all my money to surrounding states that allow hog hunting with dogs. IMO the only thing twra intends to eradicate is the hound hunters. Their working on bear hunters right now. IMO That has a lot to do with the very lengthy still hunt for bear.
Don't get me wrong, I wish no ill toward farmers, but I promise, I would not kill a 400# trophy boar if one walked out in front of me.

Too many political favors and not enough common sense in Nashville.

If everyone would stop killing them and practice a little catch N release everyone needs to put there guns up get a bulldog catch them and turn them loose!! If the farmers dont like them in there crops then they need to put a fence around them first its hog hunting with hounds they stop next it will be bear then coon and who knows what else if we dont stand up for our rights !

From what im seeing is the states that see them as game animals and not pests or live stock are the ones with the worst restrictions.
