I dont understand the "under 20 years old" requirement. What does that have to do with beardogs?

Dennis Fisher wrote:The IHA has been holding competition bear hunts for around 30 some years and it is a ton of fun when the right people and hunters get involved with it. For many years they were held in Idaho City. Then they were moved to Ramage Meadows out of Ola. They were held at some other places too, but never held out of Council because of a lack of location big enough to hold a comp hunt of any numbers. I believe they quit last year or the year before because of a lack of interest being shown now a days.

To compete animals with a exchange of anything of monetary value in Idaho is considered gambling. To get around this a certain part of the proceeds must go to a non-taxable charity. The IHA's comp hunts use to be a 60/40 split. Then it's called a fund raiser and not a gambling event. Of course a Organization that falls under this criteria, like the IHA, must be promoting the fund raiser. Then it's up to the hunters themselves to follow all of Idaho's F&G's laws and rules of hunting, as already mentioned. Hope this helps and good luck with it. Anything that brings the hunters of Idaho together is a good thing in my book. No matter if some thinks it means little or not. Things like these are where ideas start to make our sport and hunting better for all.

Very nicely put Dennis!!!

Tim, I wasn't being derogatory, just saying you can still do it. I really didn't mean to upset you. I also didin't see where you said c-o-n-t-e-s-t, just a shoot. That could mean a lot of things, just depends on who is interpreting I guess.

Another thing to consider is if it is held on public land, ie natl. forest or blm, if there is any kind of money exchange you have to buy a special land use permit and then pay a certain % of the proceeds to the govt. You can check this out on any natl. forest website. Mike

Reed-way to back peddle-Everyone in the state of CO knows we can still shoot prairie dogs. The operative words here, were "used to" and "high stakes shoots". Go find someone else to jump and disrespect...I'll not so much as give and inch.

"Last time I checked" ...yaa right.

I don't see panties in a bunch here. I see one man that actually has good dogs thats ready to prove it and a bunch of bags of wind that talked and talked and now that it's time to put up they are no where to be found.

Is this going to happen or what? With the right people, this could be a lot of fun even with no money or prizes if the law prohibits it. Just a chance to see how your dogs stack up. I know how mine stack up to the locals but it would be interesting to get a broader view of what is out there (other than what is purported on the internet  )

The 20 year old is a good thing. I am from Montana and would like to hunt I just don't have a 20 year old or under with a hound permit. Can we make some provisions for the out of state people I think you will get alot more teams. Don't even care if I start out down a point would just like to be part of the hunt.

I WOULD BE VERY CAREFUL ABOUT THIS. FROM MY PERSPECTIVE YOU ARE DRAWING ATTENTION TO YOURSELVES. WHILE THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG WITH WHAT YOU WANT TO DO,THIS CONTEST TYPE THING IS JUST THE TYPE OF THING THE HSUS GOES AFTER AND HAVING IT ON THE INTERNET, WHICH I WILL BET DOLLARS TO DONUTS THEY MONITOR, IS A RED FLAG.

THEY ADVERTISED A COYOTE HUNT AND HARVESTS WHERE MADE. IT BROUGHT ALL KINDS OF SHXX DOWN ON THEM AND EVERONE WHO RAN A HOUND. WOUND UP IN THE LEGISALATURE AND THREATENED FISHING CONTESTS AS WELL. A BUNCH OF CRAP.

LOOK AT THE APA DAYS IN SC
LOOK AT THE ANTI HOUND HUNTING LEGEISLATION AROUND THE COUNTRY.

MY THOUGHT IS DO NOT TALK ABOUT IT ON HERE, BE BELOW THE RADAR, OUT OF SIGHT OUT OF MIND, AND HAVE A GOOD TIME, I AM ALL FOR HOUND HUNTING, IT IS MY LIFE. USE E MAIL AND SPREAD WORD OR PICK UP THE PHONE.

YOU CAN TELL ME TO GET FXXXXX, BUT YOU AND ME BOTH WILL BE THE ONES WHO WILL GET FXXXXX IF THE ANTI'S START TWISTING OUR TAILS IN THE LEGISLATURES.

I do not agree with going below the radar with it and out of sight out of mind... I believe it is a temporary fix... cock fighting is a good example of this. the cock fighters fought illegally below the radar for years around here and didnt fight legislation to make it legal because they were doing it anyway and thought it would last forever. back then you could choose from 5 places within 2 hours of my house any saturday to go to a fight. Then one day your sitting in your seat at a below the radar cock fight and all the sudden theres 50 fbi agents and state troopers with ar15's pointed at you and a helicopter hovering the building and just like that... cock fighting is over in tennessee... the same will happen to hunting if we go below the radar.... in my opinion the best thing to do is bring everything to the top and try to teach or educate people about what it is all about and why it has to be done... jmo
