New to hounds I need help please look

Hi folks I live in south central Kansas were it is rare to find a coon hound let alone a cat dog my black and tan is 7 months old now I bought him from a guy named guy in Wyoming I have had lots of luck traing cattle dogs but with this hound I don't even no were to start so I tought him to set come when he is called and load in the dog box now what??? When I train a bird dog I just run him with my buddies dogs tell he gets the idea can't do that with a cat dog since there are none here eney advice is appreciated

cat some cat scent and run some drags, look under the cat training link up top mike leonards methods.

sounds like a better start than most hounds get already keep up the work on handling and just take them walking along the creek bottoms as much as you can early mornings

Hey thanks for the advice guys I have been playing hide and seek with him and he does great until the first turn he runs as hard and fast as he can then when figures out he over ran the track he goes back to we're he found the sent and starts all over so how do I slow him down?

He's just a baby still. Just let him figure it out. If he goes back and re starts it shows he's got some brains.

Bring him where the cats are, set him up, walk him in and get him going. He might suprise you. Like Dirty dan said, he's still young but keep trying him, maturity does alot for dogs.

There is a lot of bobcats right NE of you in the flint hills, if you gain permission after the rifle deer season. I worked up there in 2010 and it's great running country. Getting him broke from deer would be your biggest worry, but maybe he already is. There are tons of deer up there too. Enjoy your pup.

Ya my uncle owns a ranch up there and there is quite a bit of public land can't wait tell it cools off and I can do
