GPS Cat Tracking Collar

Post by 007pennpal »

Is it legal (anywhere?) to trap, place a GPS tracking collar on a cat, release it and use it for training pups? I was thinking that multiple cats in one area could be exactly located and used to train pups and correct the dogs shortcomings. Wouldn't it be great if you could not only watch the dogs but the animal they are chasing too? Are there areas like TX where the cats are not protected in any way?

Guys,

That would be great. The first thing I would do is place one on a coyote and break my dogs so I could tree a bobcat..... :D

I know some guys who did that with a coyote here in WI. It worked great when they couldn't find one to run. It didn't work so well when the DNR got ahold of that coyote and gave them a ticket. I can't imagine that it would be legal to do anywhere. Seems dumb when "researchers" are allowed to do it but any normal person can't. I really don't see the problem as long as you aren't using it to actually harvest the animal. If state agencies really wanted to get good data from a very diverse sample, they should have hound guys buy one for their area, train on it, and then supply the data to the researchers. It will never happen though. Most don't think we understand our quary or it's patterns. All we do is flop a barking dog on a track.
