Re: New Garmin Tracking/Shocking System
Devin, sorry to tell you, I am busy selling them. And I"m not too worried about what you are saying.
Again Sorry I was just answering the question asked for me didn't mean to piss you off.
I'm not sure what your issue is with the Alpha or if it's with Me, All I own is my reputation and I'm going to just work on keeping my reputation as good as I can. (getting into little pissing matches like this hurts it, But I sometimes just can't help myself!)
If I'm pumping something up that is crap (Which I don't think I was pumping it up at all) , It's going to hurt my reputation. If someone is not satisfied with anything about my business, the customer is going to get their money back, or I'm going to do my best to make them satisfied.
:Edited:
I'm done going back and forth about this, My alpha is smaller than your Alpha and all Hound guys that buy an Alpha are getting robbed of Tracking distance and are immediately stupid idiots that just don't know any better and are victims of greed and dirty sales tactics and lies.
If someone is worried about me taking them for a ride and selling a Piece of Shit tracking system that doesn't track 50 yards, Just Ask for your money back.

Re: New Garmin Tracking/Shocking System
I have the Alpha and this system is everything Buddy says it is! I know of 3 other guys that really like their systems too. I have found the range to be every it if not slighlty better than the DC-30's. I had some issues with it, mostly software stuff like Buddy mentioned. The collars would jump from 7 miles away to 130 miles away in a half mile stretch. The updates seem to have fixed that. As with any new product, expect a few glitches and not all units to be perfect. Its not fair to make general assumptions on one unit. Mr PJ werent you the one that used to piss and moan about the Astro's? Now you are one of the first to buy an Alpha? I'm sure there were a lot of glitches in the first telemetry beep beep systems in the beginning as well! You can't expect everything to be perfect right off the bat. I have no regrets selling all my astros and 30's to purchase this new system. I do wish it had a regular battery pack tho.
Once you go black, you'll never go back! Duncan big game Black and Tans.

Devin, I am not trying to defend Buddy here but I think you crossed the line by basically calling him a liar. That is the pot calling the kettle black if I have ever seen it.

Re: New Garmin Tracking/Shocking System
Don't much matter how these units work....They are worth every dime....I would use them if they had a range of five hundred yards.....I have yet to leave a dog out with a garmin attached.....What does a man value his lead dog? 5-10 thousand dollars and we pay four thousand dollars for security for all our dogs....Damn cheap investment....I sold my telemetry long ago and get uptight when I drop a collar and think of the worst scenario is better than telemetry for security....Garmin pioneered the market. Buy them or don't. I for one make better dogs now simply because of garmin....Garmin taught me a lot about my dogs. Found out i was full of crap prior to garmins.....

Re: New Garmin Tracking/Shocking System
Hey Buddy, glad to see you deleted that other stuff. Anyway I am not pissed at the Alpha and by no means am I or have I ever been pissed in any way at you. I think you are a stand up guy with a very good Reputaion. I have never in my life said anything bad about you nor will I. Great guy in my book and I would do anything for you anytime. I also think you run a top notch bussiness and have recomended it to many people.
That being said. I took the alpha out today and I have to admitt the down load I did on the collars and the alpha must have helped it a bit. I got better range out of it today but still was loosing collars at 750-900 yards I was able to pick a dog up at 1.56 miles on a bobcat tree but it was not a steady connection.
For you guys that are worried about if it is going to be hard to opperate and hard to switch over from shocking to tracking...Well it is very simple and very very easy and faster to use than if you were using the beep beep to shock system. The screen is a little sensitive to the touch but not a big deal , you can even use heavy winter gloves.
I still think they have a long way to go to improve the connections and the distance but all in all a very nice system, I do think it is my system like Buddy said and hopefully I can get on and give you a better report when I get mine fixed. Happy Thanksgiving everyone

Re: New Garmin Tracking/Shocking System
No worries Devin, I probably just mis-understood you. Happens allot, Your a hard guy to read as I'm sure I am too.. I've been busy and only get to pop in on this site once or so a day and just scan for topics that I can ad value to or not. I need to figure something out to do with the site since I'm loosing time with it.
Good thing is the business is busy, and Because I have a couple folks helping with the business now, I've gotten to do some more hunting than last year. Actually Heading out for a meat hunt (ELK) in the morning probably won't be around for a couple days, Hopefully I can plug a Cow quick and go set up a camp and chase some short tails around.
Enjoy, and honestly you should get the same range. If your not going to like it, it should be for something like the touch screen or that buttons get pushed on the touch screen when you put it in your pocket, but not the range.
Happy thanksgiving.

Re: New Garmin Tracking/Shocking System
The the three buttons on front... do they activate easy like if you were to put it in a pocket... ? I don't want to accidently shock a dog when its not called for. Devin that's about the same range I average most of the time, however I hunt heavy timber/canyon country.
Re: New Garmin Tracking/Shocking System
Alot of you guys are spoiled by the high tech world we live in now. If you want somthing to bitch about go back to just running a bell your dogs. See how much fuel you burn running all over the mountain trying to find a place to hear your dogs(if they are even barking). Then when you cant find em and you spend the next few days driving up to where you dumped out to see if they came out yet, you spend all day waiting and running around looking only to find out someone picked them up the night before in another drainage and hauled them to your house but your wife cant let you know because her cell phone has'nt been invented yet. Or when your pup breaks off on trash and the only method of correction is the ol head em off at the pass trick with a switch and mouth full of select words. I could go on but you get the point. Believe me all this losing signal at 900 yards and hitting the wrong shock button and every other lame ass reason to worry about before buying the alpha that has come up in this thread seems pretty trivial to me. I know for a fact that even though gas was only 25 cents a gallon a $4000.00 dollar system would of still payed for itself.

Mark,
Boy, You and I are sure on the same page about a lot of things. And like I have said all along every time I put the shock collar on Garman,(And pushed the button). It's not that all this modern technology isn't appreciated and isn't a good thing. There's just a big part of me that just doesn't like dealing with a company that doesn't give a shit about their customers.
I am sure that this is just because I am old school. And no by no means do I have 1 foot in the grave and the other on a banana peel. But some of my beliefs I think if the rest of the country believed the same we wouldn't be in the shit hole that we are in. But I guess that's getting a little off-topic and we won't go there.
But I will go here, in regard to Garman, and the computer technology. Like it or not some of the young snotty nosed kids, and know it all baby boomers. There were many that came before you, that did it the old way that Mark discussed in his post. And before you run off half cocked thinking that you really know it all because you can look at a Garman screen and type on the computer. You might try and chew up fine enough to swallow the fact that you couldn't make a pimple on a real dog man's ass. Because the same people that did it the old way also have the new technology in their hand. And they also know how to use it too.
Take care, Willie

Re: New Garmin Tracking/Shocking System
Mark, Great post. I know just what you mean. I have done the bell thing and that was not fun. Beep collars were great but since I have gotten the Garmin system I have not left a dog out over night, and saved a ton on fuel.

Re: New Garmin Tracking/Shocking System
Unreal, No I dont think you will ever have a problem shockign the dogs with it in your pocket. You have to make a good connection on the button.
Mark, I am with you on that. I have spent more years tracking dogs with just my ears and the famous Switch than I have with tracking and shock systems. But I am not one of those old timers that live in the past either

Devin
Im the same way but i drug my feet all the way. Right up till Garmin made GPS for dogs. I knew it had to be better than what we had and i bought some. I had no idea how to use them but i wanted to so bad i had to figure em out. The 40s didnt work for me so i jumped on the alphas as soon as they came out and i have had good luck with them. I think there is alot of stuff that gadget people like on them that i could care less about. I can live with the range in the country i hunt. All they need to do to them to make me happy happy happy is give us a battery that will last a couple weeks. One collar on each dog!!!! Seems simple to me.
Willy, i think we would have a good time huntn together! I mite even leave all the dogs home but two just to keep ya happy. Na f..k that! I like a roar coming out of the bottom of the canyon to much lmao

Re: New Garmin Tracking/Shocking System
I was collaring up this morning and had the dog ( the part on the buckle that goes in the hole on the strap) fall off of one. It was a stock Garmin strap. I looked at the rest of them and there were a couple more that were spread a little. A squeez of the pliars fixed it but they feel pretty cheesy. The after market straps that Buddy sent me seem alot stouter and none of them were spread at all. Probably a good idea to check em out!
