lever action 30 06 anyone have one?
So I want to get a new lever gun but 30 30 isn't my favorite round out there. I saw browning makes a 30 06..........for a price. Anyone have one? Anyone know of another brand?

I have had several of them over the years and the BLR is a well made and accurate rifle. Although the 30-06 is my all time favorite round I would ask you to consider the 308 Winchester in your new rifle. With bullets up to 165 gr. the slight velocity advantage that the 30-06 has is so neglidgable that no critter would ever notice. Also with todays premium loads and awesome scope options the 308 is a top choice for targets out to 500 yards and beyond. I know 500 yards doesn't sound like much in this day of the long range craze but beleive me in actual hunting situation without a complete support and camera crew it is a long damn shot! The shorter over all length of the 308 cartridge makes your gun much quickier to operate for repeat shots and the 14-17 pound recoil of the 308 is much friendlier in a light rifle than the 20 plus pound recoil of the 06.
My favorite big game rifle for cruising the woodlands and even the high rim rock country of the west which I do on horseback is a lever action 308 in the now defunct Savage 99F. Topped with a compact Leupold 1-3/4-5 power Vari X III and loaded with Hornady's super performance 165's this combination is quick, accurate and user friendly and it drops big mule deer as well as elk with authority. If you go on the used market and find one of these you will thank me after you use it a bit. too bad Savage dropped this from their line after 90 plus year of production, they were an engineering marvel and to my estimation the finest lever action rifle ever built. Upon recieving one as a gift in the early 1900's Teddy Roosevelt said it was the finest and best made rifle he had ever owned and we know Teddy loved his lever actions. Good luck!

So henry makes one? I haven't been able to find a henry 06. And thank you for the advice on the 308. To be honest I've never shot a lever 308. I will deffinately give it a shot. I did have my eye on a win but can't decide between that and the browning, and now the henry and savage haha.

Check out the Henry website. They're under the big boy guns. I just got one of the Henry .44 mags, gonna go out and shoot it on Wednesday, if it shoots half as smooth as the .22 I've got it will be worth every penny. I know the Henry's are hard to find but well worth it, I've been looking for the 45-70 that Henry makes but they are like 10 months out on back order.

I just got on their website all I could find was the 45 357 and 44 magnum. I really like the henry, and I would love to find one in 30 06. Do you have the web address?

Re: lever action 30 06 anyone have one?
I was listening to an interview with Anthony Imperilito the CEO of Henry Firearms the other day. they have some new models planed but nothing in high intensity cartridges like the 06. the 30-30 is the largest they have planed now and they are selling the Big Boy 44 Magnums very well. these rifles and their design set will with today's cowboy action Shooters and they have also been names the official 22 of the Boy Scouts of America.
Lever guns are just plain fun and although I have a big safe full of all kinds of bolt action firepower I find myself more and more grabbing the Savage, or possibly even my model 94 30-30 or my Marlin model 93 in 32-40 when i go out to just have fun. I talked to an old man that guided a lot of big name sportsman in Canada and Alaska for years. He told the story of guiding a famous gun writer on a grizzly bear hunt one time in British Colombia. He said he and the hunter were in camp and a weathered old Indian man came by camp and stopped for tea with them. He told them he was off to kill a big bear too. The hunter laughed at him when he saw his beat up old 94 winchester 30-30 and told him he should borrow his nice new Mark 5 Weatherby 300 for the hunt. the old man said no that kind of gun would not work for him becasue it didn't have the right medicine with it. They had a good laugh and the old man went his way. The guide and the hunter went out the next day but didn't get a bear but they ran onto the old indian out in the brush with a huge bear he was skining out. the hunter couldn't beleive it and asked the old man how many times did you shoot that thing? The old man held up one finger. The hunter said no way, not with that old antique gun? The old indian then explained to them that he had hid and waited for the bear to come his way and shot him at very close range. The hunter said didn't you think it was dangerous letting that monster bear get that close to you? the old indian shrugged and said I had my medicine gun with me but I wanted to make sure he was close becasue I only had one catridge for my gun.
True story!
