Postby Coon hunter15 wb » Wed Feb 27, 2013 3:29 am

I have a 7 year old walker and he will not stop slick treeing .wat do I do to stop him from doing it? And when he gets a coon it takes home forever to get it in the tree?

Shock shock shock. Aldo you need to run him with a dog that don't do that and when he trees a coon in a tree praise him good. Just let him see other dog doing right. I don't care if he is 7 years old. At that age he should never do that EVER. Jmo

But at 7 he shouldn't do that. Maybe tie him off 15 feet to a tree that has a coon in it so he can see wat he is supposed to be treeing and praise him

i had the very same problem with my 7 year old redtick female. i had no clue why she would slick tree but i could tell every time when she was going to slick just by how she would run the track. anytime she had trouble running an older track she would just come up treed with nothing. i starting catching hot tracks for her and when when she was slick treeing i would shock her. shocking her, never affected her by treeing again.if there was a coon up there she would bark ten times harder than if there wasn't. lots of people said that she would never stop slick treeing at that age. i worked with her enough that she hasn't been slick treed on me any more.

If he is 7 years old, he is not going to improve. I suggest that you find another younger dog and don't hunt the two dogs together...no use the younger dog picking up the bad habits.
Adios,
Gary
