We ran him last Saturday got a look at him but could not get him before dark, with only a crew of 5 it can be tough to get into position.
After a long week of work waiting for the chance to chase him again. Being we was running on PA game lands we checked Friday to see if any other guys was in there hunting durning the week. Not seeing any hunting activity we headed out at daylight and found his track. Put the old female on the track and we worked this cold track for 3 hours and finally at the other end of the block the dogs crossed the road and we knew the track was getting hot because that track was not there at daylight. Shortly after crossing the road we jumpped it at the top of the hill. It ran down to the road and got shot at and turned back up the hill. This gave the guys on the road the opproniuty to pick up the old dog and pack in some younds dogs.
Well you know how young hounds go somehow they didn't make it in so we had the 3 year Trigg, Duke, on him and the yote kept baying up and when a hunter got close run out. Well he finally made his why back to me and bayed in a brush pile. We got in there and was able to wait for the uncle to bring in some young hounds in. We decided to let him run to get some young dogs running experience when we got him out of the brush pile. Chased him out and the race was on!! What a memory watching this yote come out of that brush pile.
Now we ran him down the hill and then he came right back at us. Watched this coyote come across the gully and ran the open woods just below me. What a site! Black coyote runing with the white snowy background with 3 dogs running him by sight. We ran him around for all afternoon with 5 out of seven hunters seeing him and 4 of us shooting at him. I got a shot coming through the brush and Duke was right behind him but wasn't barking and the yote was beside me before I seen him, I was able to get one shot but the second shoot the dog was in the way so I let him go and he ran by my cousin and right to my dad who was able to put him down just after 4 o clock. All the dogs got some running with Duke being up front all day. Pups made the race all day just got behind, need more running time in.
What a fun day of running and getting some dog training and a great trophy. We are planning on getting it mounted and keeping it at Gradpa's house. Always fun spending the day hunting with family. Grandpa, Dad, 2 Uncles, brother, cousin and myself. My boys joined for the pics. My oldest was along the week before when we ran it but had a decision to make and went to a sportmans show on Saturday instead of hunting.
