DC 30 issue

Post by troy7538 »

Hi folks first post but have gained allot of info on here over the last couple of months. I've had the astro from the beginning and remember well trying to keep those little velcro vests on my beagles withy the DC20's. :D

I have about a dozen collars now, a mixture of 30's and 40's. I have a newer 30 that I can't figure out. It seemd to work fine but loses radio signal at about 400 yards. This is with a brand new 320 and also my old 220. I have replaced the long antenna, I have changed out the GPS antennae, removed the software and re-updated...just cannot figure it out. I've never had one do this exactly. Anyone else have any experience with this? Suggestions?

Thanks

Troy

Troy,

While much rarer than with the DC 40s, there have been some "BAD" 30s. If you have done all you have posted, call Garmin and get an RMA and replace it.

Usually a loss of range is due to a bad antennae on the collar itself. What kind of antennae did you replace it with? The Garmin antennaes are pure garbage!! The wire inside breaks, get a good cable type antennae like Tuff Skins.

Or you can actually make your own like I did out of coated stainless aircraft cable. Works way better than the original antennae, better range for both the DC 30 and DC 40.

Make sure all conections are clean and corrosion free.
