Original question was for young dogs pop up or longer race nothing was said abou with older dogs. So the ball game changes with young dogs running with experieced dogs. Andy

I got it all wrong then? Maybe you seen a young dog pop-up 3 in a row or run a tricky cat for an hour or more in your area, but I haven't in mine. Thought for sure he was talking about starting it with some older dogs.TWMO. Maybe he's talking Snow also? Clear us up on this Old Dog, if you can. You never answered me when I asked how old the dog was in my earlier post.

I should be more clear I guess sorry. young dog = a dog just starting out. training with experienced dog or dogs. snow or dry ground. I know its easier in the snow and some may train a pup in snow from scratch alone but I wasn't thinking that way. was trying to say in general, what is most beneficial for the training of a young cat dog, a hour of track time or a quick jump and tree. personally I would take the track time as I always let my pups tree some coon before I put them on cats as I think it lets them know that the race should end in a tree. also since you guys went all technical on me, the original question started with "for you young hunters" and you sure the heck aint a young hunter neither one of you guys fit into that category lmao
no mater if you think you can or you think you cant,, you are probably rite.

if it ends up with a cat in a tree I would prefer the long race my Australian shepherd could pop a cat up on a real short race if they can catch on a real long hard race u know they can catch on the short ones but that is not so true the other way around

All I have now is young dogs, sold all my finished ones last year. I love walking out tracks and watching pups, in short I would never not want a popup. That said I'll help them and walk them to the end of any track. Pups make me get up and go like nothing else.
