Re: The Ultimate Bobcat Dog, PART ONE...
It may be that you have been around border collies for to long and in to certain of a way. On top of that, there are many more lines of border collies in N. America. I'll just bet if you made a project out of it you could find one that does locate the way you would like. Don't think that I'm stopping at the two I've got now. I've already got a male stag that trees like a champ and I'm looking for another b.c. to breed him to. I like these dogs enough to keep doing this and I can see the destination in my minds eye, I just have to get there in real life which takes a little longer. The female I choose will have to be special in that she must locate naturally only I really don't think it's going to be that hard to find her because I've seen it before.
In the mean time, I will be working with Tommy and Vicki to see what I can teach them. I'm looking to the search and rescue people for my pattern but that is only because I don't know any circus folks...seriously.

Why not try to cross a Laika in stead of a border collie? There natural tree dogs there smart as a whip and there natural trail dogs. Just a thought think that would be worth looking in to.

merlo_105- That's a good point but I don't have much for access to one and I've never even see one in the woods. That holds me back more than anything. The thing is, I've seen some excellent treedogs in the b.c. breed. That's not to say that I wouldn't like a Laika better, just never seen one go.

This is JMO but I would not waste a dime on a Laika. They are not good trail dogs unless it is a very hot track. They find more game by winding then trailing. Very close hunting dogs, & will not stick on a running track for very long & really bring nothing to the table. Again JMO & I have only seen a dozen or so hunt over in Sweden so maybe I am judging the breed to harshly.

Thanks Cajun, first hand info. is the best. I would think that if they are as they billed to be there would be quite a few more in the US.

Andy, the couple that I have seen do it could locate sight unseen very well. They appear mostly in the squirrel dog community though the two I've seen were just family dogs on farms that went hunting with the farm kids. It doesn't sound like the more romantic big game version of the story that I would like it to be but the experience was still not lost on me. I told the kids that they had quite a dog but they didn't think it was unusual. I hope it's not.

Part One suggests that this is a first step in a direction. I thought that was fairly obvious. They are 1 1/2 years old and doing well. I will be providing no pictures of bobcats caught with these dogs in the near future. This is for informational and educational purposes only.

Re: The Ultimate Bobcat Dog, PART ONE...
This is not a bragging post. I'm not selling anything and I'm not telling anyone they have to follow it. I'm simpley explaining what is happening with my project so that anyone who sees the value in what I'm doing can watch and maybe cut some corners or decide that what I'm doing is not for them. If you go back near the beginning of this thread you'll see what inspired me to do this aside from my long interest in sighthounds. In addition, I don't want the attention that goes with pictures...good or bad.

Re: The Ultimate Bobcat Dog, PART ONE...
The suspense... There Ultimate bobcat dogs age shouldn't be a factor 1 1/2 years old they should be doing it all. Just messing. Looking forward to the next up date Dan.
