I like to hide a hotdog that I break into 8 pieces and hide them around the yard. When he finds it he gets to eat it then look for another piece. Put some on the fence or in a tree as well as on the ground. Walk with them and try to get them downwind. watch them they'll smell it. If they smell the high ones knock it out to them. I don't like feeding hotdogs so once a week until they get the hang of it then week and half or so. No hurry on the pup firing on coon.

The picture of the pup I posted at, 4.5 months age I had her on a caged coon with some other pups and she wouldn't bark at it at all, while all the other pups were really fired up about it, and started baying a 6 month old cur pup until the cur pup attacked her.

At 9.5 months age she ran a bear and treed it by herself.

At 12.5 months age she and another pup age 13.5 months held a cat treed from evening till the next morning at 8 AM, which is how long it took me to get to the tree.

At 13 months she got in front of the other dogs and met her demise in the jaws of a lion.

Different pups develop & mature differently.
