the tree. This is where it would be handy for somebody in the huntin' party to be sportin' an Echo Timber Wolf chainsaw....pull, pull, pracka-pracka-pracka- buzz, buzzz, BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ, TIMBER!!!!
Now, if the treed animal were falling to my gun, I'd holler GERONIMO! even if he weren't' wearing a chute.

I have heard of people breaking limbs with a high powered rifle. But I have never witnessed it.

Re: If your shot bear or lion is stuck in...
I have seen limbs shot off many times. On a recent Wounded Warrior hunt the game wasn't moving good and several of us had worked hard to get these guys cats. We finally got a nice Tom treed in a large pine that was up high sitting on the biggest limb on the tree. The hunter shot the cat and it just went limp with both front legs draped over branches and the back legs hanging off each side of the large limb. He had shot it with a seventeen mag. The limb was large enough that I didn't think we could shoot it off without a large caliber gun. 11 shots later and my son had shot the limb in two. Our first mistake was using a seventeen. I have seen many cats hang up when using a seventeen or a 22 mag. They are so deadly on a bobcat that they often go limp without even a kick. A 22 long rifle is plenty deadly especially if using decent ammo. And you usually get a couple of kicks to at least get the cat out of the tree.
