Put one up today

Post by chilcotin hillbilly »

This morning I let My walker Nick out of her kennel for a run a round. Our summer camp kids were coming down from the cabins to the house, Nick went to say hi to them all. As I called her to put her back in the kennel She took one good smell and at the same time buffy my only real bear dog took off, opening up the whole way. at this time I thought I could be in for the long hall as neither was collared up. They both went out about 2 hundred yards one way the shut up. Seconds later here they come right past me there was no stopping them. Off they went in the right direction this time, 400 yards later they had a nice 300 lb ish boar up a Cotton wood tree. So here I am no gun , and no leashes and no camera. I let them tree for 20 minutes and dragged them off by their collars. That little walker was in my eyes a bit of a strange hound and I was contemplating culling her. But as strange as she is [ almost embarrassing] she is really putting up the game and has a real hate on for bears. But sorry guys no pictures which is to bad as he was low enough at the start to get the dogs in the picture as well. Good way to start the day.

Congrats on the tree. So this bear must have walked right through your yard moments earlier?

Yes the bear was probably feeding on berries behind a hill that morning, within 100 yards of the house. This time of year We have frequent visitors because of the berrys. That is ok because this time of year you can only run bears if it is to protect your family or property. I am the only guy treeing bears within a 100 miles, no one else even tries, and their is only one other hounds man in the area.
