Hi all, just a little introduction. My name is Dustin Milbourn I am 24, first time hound trainer, lifetime dog owner. My grandfather use to raise/train Big Game hounds in Alaska for 30+ years, before he hung up the leads. I grew up hearing all of his stories and gaining a book knowledge expirience with hounds. Man, does he have alot of wisdom on hound hunting. I have learned alot. I finally got to a point in my life where starting for myself was possible. I still have my grandfather with me for advice. We have gone to a few FT together with my hounds. I honestly can say my grandfather misses it, I can see it in his eyes.
I got my first hound Velvet a few months ago, she is about 12 months now. She was not worked with before me. So far she is still silent and timid on track and smaller animals (cats, coons) She will track great though. She is belived to be full treeing walker, however her red/brown is alot paler then walkers i've seen. Plus her coat is a little longer. I have been told she may be crossed with running walker as well.
My second hound came to me 2 months ago, from owners who could not handle her anymore. Lady is about 6 years, the people I got her from anre not hunters. They found her last years wondering in there old town. I have taken her to a few FT and she is an AWESOME tree dog. My grandfather belives she was trained at one point and had gotten lost. I haven't had them out in the woods yet. Here in Washington state we have a coon season. I will next month though. Lady will be my trainer since she is loud mouthed and has that drive to hunt and tree. She has treed cats in our yard and stayed put for more then 3 hours chopping.
My third hound is just a 9 week male pup. I got him from a buddy who hunts bear/cats. He has 9 hounds all breed for this game. He has full walkers walkers/pit...redbone/BT..You name it. This pup Brodie is 5/8 walker 1/4 pit 1/8 Blue Tick. Bred to pack hunt on bear. His father was full walker, his mother 1/2 pit 1/4 walker 1/4 blue tick..Well those are the hounds..Nice to meet ya all.
