Nice coon, riggin them is the way to go huh? i just found this place over the summer that you can rig them its so much more fun that way than just free casting them. nice job.

Pat,

O yea, i enjoy rigging them, its like a "mini bear hunt", everything is about the same, except that the races are alot shorter. But i also free cast alot too, just depends on how i feel like hunting and where im hunting :D

Nice pic, you rigging the roads that run on both sides of the Rio Grande? I havent hunted down that way for a few years but its some good hard hunting. I need to try to get down there once this year met a lot of nice houndsmen down there. Keep hunting hard.

looks great! nice dogs :D
call me stupid but, what is rigging exactly? i've only been coonhunting for 2 years and i just turn the dogs loose and follow them to the tree. i've heard people talk about rigging but i never asked what it was.
thanks :)

Treedog/Boone,

Yea theres just two roads up and down the river, then you got all your canal, or ditch bank roads, and if theres any crop fields you can get access too.

What part of the Rio Grande did you use to hunt?

*beagle girl*,

Rigging, is where you just put your strike dogs on top of you dog box and drive down the road till they strike what ever it is your looking for.

Bency I have hunted in Las Lunes and the town just past it with the coon club down there. Bunch of great guys and good hounds. I really like the terian but when it gets dry the hunting really challanges the hounds.

Ok yea, i know where your talking about now, i used to hunt that part of the river 2years ago, but now im much farther south about 2 1/2 hrs.
Ive seen a huge difference in my dogs ability to trail coons since i moved further south and the coons are mainly running around on sand and not dirt, the scent doesnt retain as much and as long, so it challenges the dogs big time.

Ya that sand makes it really hard for the hounds. They hunt a lot different in it. Are they going to hold any comp hunts down your way?

Do you go to the comp hunts? Maybe I will run into you at 1 or 2, keep up the hunting.

Treedog/Boone,

No i never have gone to the comp hunts before, always really focused on just hunting big game, insted of coons but now that i live so close to a decent amount of coon hunting, im really started to hunt the coons this past yr and half.
