Now were talking. Lets get this board started. Show me a pic or tell me a story about your running dog that can cold trail. Some folks think they don't have the nose. I know SOME that can trail on tracks that are cold enough you would never get the cat jumped.

Great job getting this set up for the Running Dog Cat Hunters!
Hope folks realize that the sport of Bobcat Hunting changes with the type country and part of the country you live in.
We have a freind (Jim Moore, Lake Charles, LA) Daddy's has helped get started with running Cathounds. Mr. Jim used to live at Vernal, Utah. He knows Lion and Bear dogs but was smart enough to know they would not work in South LA & Southeast TX. His & our good freind Ray Melton from Uvalde, TX gave him a broke strike dog who is a top hound in South TX but told him you could take 5 just like him to East TX and the Southern Piney woods extending to FL, GA & the Carolinas and not catch a Cat in a 5 acre briar patch!
An analogy would be trying to play Softball with a Baseball glove and bat. The concept is the same but the conditions dictate a change in equipment and rules.
Derek we just got home from down at Malvern, AR hunting with Glen. We rigged over 50 miles. We struck two cold tracks that Rita & Ruby could not get off the road, this is the third night in a row with NO GOOD LUCK. This must be why you don't see bobcat hunters around every corner!

I hunted a couple months ago with Warner Glenn of southern arizona. For those of you who don't know of him he is a legend in the dry ground lion hunting community. He had with him a running walker that someone had given him. I asked if the dog was fast on a hot track which he replied yes. He then went on to tell me that the dog really was a good lion dog all the way around. He told me the dog did very well cold trailing which he figured was self preservation on the dogs behalf. We did catch a good tom lion that day but didn't get to work the long end of the track.
I just thought I'd share that with ya'll. he's not mine and I didn't see it . However Warner is a houndsmen and a very humble one at that. He's also a man of his word. If he says hes good he's probable better than any hound I've ever or will ever own. Sure enjoyed the trip with ol' Warner and his daughter Kelly which is a hell of a houndswomen herself. Take care all and happy hunting.

Monday night ahead of the storms we had a hunt to make up for all the bad ones last week!
We took only one old dog (Rita), two 2yr olds, and six 1yr old puppies. Struck the first Cat cold off the box and trailed him over an hr before jumping him. He turned out to be one of our Popup regulars and only ran a couple of min before going up. Had good work trailing out of the two young gyps and two puppies tried to cold trail.
Weather was turning bad and Dad wanted to go home, but I talked him into Rigging home the long way. I did not have to talk too hard!
Ole Rita and one of the two yr olds struck hot off the top and the race was on! The Cat went to Rock Creek (pretty big with steep banks) and ran there for an 1 & 1/2 hrs. Hound work was good as the h2o and high banks made them work. Rita and young dogs carried the load but all the puppies were giving mouth and got a couple of pickups.
The ole Cat pulled some kind of trick in the h20 and about got away when Brandy, a Puppy, picked him up leaving out of the creek bottom. Our panic level was accelorating until Rita got to her and said it was all right. The Garmin Astro really helps in situations like that, we could see the pup was by herself and Rita was trying to get to her, and barked upon arrival!
The Cat had gotten a big lead on the pack by this time, however they got back under him and were running the H$%% out of him when he started heading to US HWY 70. The pack were about to cross the last Club rd before the HWY so we caught them before a wreck happened.
