ANIMAL ABUSER BACK IN JAIL
Published: September 3, 2007
ENTERPRISE — A Wallowa man convicted of animal abuse is in jail again.
James Brown Walker, 62, was arrested at his residence Aug. 28, but Wallowa County Sheriff Fred Steen would not allow any information released until Thursday.
Walker was arrested on a warrant charging that he had animals in his possession, which was a probation violation.
After his Feb. 26 conviction on one count of animal abuse in the first degree and two counts of animal neglect in the first degree, Walker was ordered to have no animals in his possession for five years.
In addition, Walker was to serve 30 days in jail.
When he failed to appear April 16 as agreed, he was arrested in Washington and an additional 45 days was added to his sentence.
Walker had allowed a wire to remain on the leg of a 4- to 5-month-old filly until the circulation stopped and the leg broke. The horse was put down.
For the latest charge, Walker was arraigned Aug 29. Wallowa County Circuit Court Judge Russ West ordered Walker to jail without bail until his hearing on the probation violation charge scheduled for 4 p.m. Wednesday.
A search warrant served at Walker's residence turned up one mule, two horses, approximately 60 head of cows and 45 dogs.
The search warrant was based on an ongoing investigation of Walker for several animal-related crimes, a sheriff's office press release said.
Neither Sheriff Steen nor Undersheriff Steve Rogers were available for comment.
Additional charges are pending, Wallowa county District Attorney Mona Williams said.

interesting
does anyone know if any of these dogs were hounds?
I had heard that there had been a large number of Walkers impounded in a cruelty situation somewhere in OR, and that the shelter was seeking out the people who had put deposits on a litter of pups to send those pups to their new homes before seeking others to adopt them.
Anyone know this guy and know if this is the whole story? I hate to think that any of us were doing business with a guy that was convicted of doing that to his horse. Although I don't ask people if they've ever been convicted of animal abuse before I buy a pup, we do need to take a stand against people in our sport who aren't fit for animal husbandry.

I cannot say for sure there were hounds... But Jim Walker has raised Walker hounds and sold them throughout the country for years.. So, yep I would guess that is who you heard about. I bought a dog from him and he said it was guarenteed.. Well when that guarentee was up I never could get a hold of him again to talk about it.. Not the first person I have heard that from either....
