looking for a bluetick

I know everyone is going to have a opion on this one but I would like to know what breeder, bloodline you all thinks is the best for bears and cats. Yes it must be a bluetick for the reason that i like them and would like to try one before i try the next breed. If you guy could post pictures of the dogs that you like or run that would be great.

You will most likely get a 100 different opinions on this, even though you are just looking for blue dogs. I am partial to Cameron blues, all though maybe not as fast as some other blues, for the most part they are very cold nosed, gritty and have a lot of stick. They are most definately bred for big game, their history being mainly cat and bear. I can also hunted with some guys with Smokey River breeding and Vaughn breeding. They have turned out to be great dogs too. Good cold nose, rig dogs, that are exceptional trail dogs with a lot of stick, sometimes too much stick

thanks Chris that is what i was hoping to get was a lot of diffrent opions the more the merrier i think I was look at the cameron hounds but also wondering what eles was out there.

I second the Van Johnson they are really good big game dogs, but aren't as pretty as a CAmeron. If you want a papered Bluetick ,get and English Bluetick.

I have to say that although I'm not a bluetick lover I'd be getting me a hammer bred bluetick. The best pack of hounds I have ever seen were all decendents of hammer 9. They were tough fast gritty dogs who flat caught game.

i have a femal that is mixed between a walker and black and tan. she is one of our best dogs she strikes, trails and trees real hard. we found her and one of our camrons locked up one night. we now have 9 pups. i expect great things from them both being real good bear and cat dogs if your intersted let me know

I will get you the VAN J. # give me a day or so, I hunt with a guy that has a few of van J's pups and older dogs and they perform, they are expensive though?

get a smokey river bluetick top of the line hounds and also the utchman and hammer dogs are good too then the cameron hounds are very good big game hounds but smokey river my opionion is the best bluetick bloodline i have a smokey river hound an utchman/hammer 18 and an upson minnisink bear dog they are all good hounds

thanks guys if you could I would like to see some pics of these diffrent lines to see how diffrent they all look. Prices would help I need to get a real hound not the half bird dog that I have now. where would is good place to look for a finished hound at thanks

Rather than just picking a line of dogs, I think the first question should be what and where will you be hunting. I am a strong believer that certain breeds and lines within breeds are better suited to a particular game and conditions. I feel the most versitle line in the bluetick breed is Smokey River based on nose, speed and treeing ability. Cameron breeding is great for biggame but I am concerned that they typically do not have the speed to get these bobcats jumped and running down here.

thanks gary the place that I will be hunting is flat with juniper trees and some rim rock. I will just be useing him for big game maybe a coon a little not much at all. But I would say more of a cat dog than a bear but will still use him a lot for bear. Some times we get a lot of snow but more times than not we are dry. I was looking for cold nosed hounds so I wouldn't have to wait for rain or snow. we live in the high desert is what they say we are for a climate. Do you know any #'s for a smoky river hound
