Are u having trouble starting cats this time of year?
What month is the hardest time of the year to get cats started & have a good race?
Dont take into conideration the weather.
I am talking about a night with ideal weather conditions.

Hipshooter,

Every Cat Hunter we know, from W. OK, S. TX., SW. LA., MS., and the two of us here in AR are all having hell finding a track we can run.

The Folks in S. TX are dealing with drought and having trouble finding a Cat period. Mr. Jim in SW. LA. has been having trouble finding Bobcats, but his problem is too much h2o.

Glen Rybard and Dad and I have been striking Cat but they have been walking in the middle of afternoon and the tracks are too cold to do anything with time we find them after dark!

Historicaly the months of May and June Dad has found, are the worst months to try to have a Race. Cats do not move as much during this time as we all have discussed on other Posts. Food is easy to find and Cats just do have to move as much and sure do not come out and walk the main roads like they normally do!

Hope this Helps!

Thanks for the info John,
It rained here Sunday night 1.25 in.
Was perfect night monday, plenty of moisture,
no wind, & cool. The old timers always told me the second night after a rain is always better hunting than the 1st night. I can,t find out tues night as I am to tired to go.
My friend James came over & we had 8 dogs between us & a perfect night.
We started at 7.00 PM as it was so cool.
We hunted till 6.00 AM or 11 hours. We roaded about 65 miles of my best cat country. We had a couple of fast tail waging, but not one bark all night.
We did see 2 different coons in the road & had a little action with the shockers on 2 pups.
My country is poor cat population, but not that poor.
We went & eat breakfast & I got in bed at 7.30 AM
How much better can it get, to hunt cats all night & sleep all day.
U can do this after u retire & your wife past away like mine did last year. She was only 60 years old. Tears come to my eyes every time I think about her. Chasing cats is all I live for now.

Hipshooter,

Once again we feel your pain!

As you may have read while in FL we Rigged as many as 121 miles in a night and no race.

It is that time of the year when strikes are tough to find and runble tracks even tougher!

Hipshooter,

We hunted all night last night and got one cold strike! Glen and his Dad had the same luck. Mr. Jim Moore hunted in central LA last night and struck one cold track after 1AM.

Mr. Harold Parker in MS writes "Cat are Hard to Find".

Wed. night just ahead of the bad weather we ran three different Cat for from 15 min. to a little over an hour. I will tell the full story of Wed.'s hunt elswhere.

When Cats are moving, it seems every Cat in the area seem to move.

May and June. Hmmm. It's all those lactating females ha ha. Those females are all over the road with their babies. just cant smell em :beer

And the males, they are afraid to move. They cant tell where those lactating females are. Them females turn off their scent now. Males cant smell em. They turn off their sound too so the males cant hear em coming. Suddenly, the male is wearing a spotted hat with claws in his eyes. But they dont know it's spotted cause they cant SEE those females either. They turn off their molecular structure until those kittens are starting to get weaned. You will see a big change on July 7. :o

For now though, you cant smell the lactating females, and the males are just frozen in one place, afraid to move. they got their mouth open hoping a pheasant chick or something will come along and run in there. Those chicks and little mice and baby rabbits just think it is a cool entrance to a haunted house at disney land. It's so cool how nature keeps those toms alive this time of year.

(One of the perks for being crazy is: never short on ways to entertain myself.)
