had an old timer tell me that he has always wormed his hound with turpentine, and that his dad did it for 50 years. he told me if a dog was wormy that a cc down the throat would fix the problem. A buddy of mine did it with several of his hounds that he couldnt seem to ever get fat/slick, and it worked. I had a hound that I couldnt get straight so I tried it too, and in 7-10 days his coat was slick, shiney and he started eating better and putting on weight. Just wondered if anyone had ever done this or known of it being done.
A tip if you decide to do it, pull 2 cc of pepsi or something into the syringe then pull in the 1 cc of turpentine, dont let the rubber stopper touch the turpentine or it will become hard to push out the syringe. Old man said only need 1 cc of the turp, that 2 wouldnt kill him but would make him flop around.
I tried it and Im a believer, use other worm medicine normally but if I get one I cant get right he will get a dose of this from now on.

Re: oldtimers worm remedy
Heard of this a long time ago.
Never heard the exact amount.
Just heard of a new one the other day.
New to me anyway.
First one. A clove of garlic.
Read garlic is not good for dogs.
Second one. Poke Root.
Clean and chop up poke root.
Boil in water and grease.
Make a big pan, let a dog eat its fill and move to next dog.
The fellow telling me this is up in his seventy's .
When he was told about it, he told the fellow that poke root is poison.
The man older than him replied, it might be, but not around here.
Anyone else heard of this.
I have not tried any of the above!!!!!!!

havent tried either one of those. Was told that garlic is bad for dogs as well, but have an uncle who has been giving it to his turkey hound daily for years and he doesnt ever seem wormy, but he gives it to him to control fleas, if you feed a dog garlic fleas will not stay on him.
I dont know if poke root is poisen or not, but that does seem like the stuff old timers do!

Poke salad greens?
Made with bacon grease?
My father picked them every spring.
Said it was a spring tonic.
I have ate that!!!!!
My father also told me to only eat the greens, and only when first sprouting.
Wish he was here to tell me why today.

Frog you forgot to tell all the yankees on here to boil there polk 3 times, you tryin to thin down the northern boys on here or what
My grandma use to feed it to us when we were kids. But she also feed my dad a charchol mixture an old Osage woman told her about when he was a kid cause he was so skinny she thought he was wormy,He said he started eating as much as he could so she wouldnt make him take any more of that stuff, so it worked either way. I just take 2cc of ivomec orally twice a year taste way better to me, Grandma always boiled the polk 3 times dumped the water between each session, said if you were tuff you only had to boil it twice. POORBOY most of the plant is pretty toxic thats why we boil it so many times, plus it taste like crap so i dont mess with it and a hog wont eat it so i figure if a hog wont eat somthing i sure as heck aint

Re: oldtimers worm remedy
I dont know how affective polk is on worms but polk leaves crushed and rubbed on poison ivy will dry it up quick. Burns like crazy but it works.
