So question to see if anyone else has experienced something similar. There's a piece of property i coon hunt and i have had some strange experiences there. I've had the dogs up the hill about a hundred yards from me running in a half circle about 75 years long growling and barking. One night i was standing in a creek with my light on and my male walker was walking along the bank, stopped and stared under a thorn thicket, started growling and took off after something, went about 200 yards and came back. Another night i was walking up a hollar heading back to the house and the dogs ran up the hill growling and barking and about a hundred yards later down the hill doing the same with their hair standing up. Took my 6 month old Redbone female out during the day about a week ago. She was walking along smelling and i noticed the hair on her neck stand up. She went a little farther, stopped and was staring up the hill under some cedar trees and the hair on her back stood up too and she started growling and barking and slowly moving in YNt direction of what's she was seeing. I caught her and took her back home. On a couple hunts while the dogs were hundreds of yards away from me, i was standing in the woods with light turn off and hear foot steps but everytime i turned on my light the steps immediately stopped. Any idea what is going on? Are they encountering a large predator? I'm in KY for refrence. We do have black bear, a ton of coyotes, bobcats and a few mountains (fish and wildlife confirmed game wardens killed a big Tom about 30 miles from this property and i personally saw one chasing 2 deer when i was 14 or 15 while squirrel hunting with a 410.

Hope everyone is doing well and catching lots of game! Our weather here in Montana is odd to say the least, we have no snow and lots of 40-60 degree days when it should be cold as hell and snow everywhere. I went out today and caught a lion, was roading dogs and they struck and treed a female lion. I was very proud! I pulled the dogs and hiked back to the truck , put the old dogs up and took the pups back to the tree and she had vacated the area. Pups trailed great for just about 2 miles and made a bad loose, I got the old dogs back out and after crossing the river and luckily a very less than busy highway they had her treed in another 1 1/2 miles. My youngest male pup made the whole race for the first time and was treeing hard also for the first time. It was a great day!!

I’ve had dogs act similar to what you are saying and most of the times it was another dog. Night time in the woods is a safe place to be, you can hurt yourself.

Bowhunting4life, I’ve had my fox hounds at night run up on bears. Some want to catch it but most come flying back, hair up, bugger barking trying to get in the truck. One even went over the dog box onto the top of the cab. And she is a fox and bobcat killing machine, when she catches either one on the ground it’s over.

As I think back, I have never had running dogs bugger on me. Just tree dogs. Must be they by staying in one place and steady barking pulls house dogs , cayote to the tree. I really don’t think that would be strange or mysterious. I’ve been in the woods at night most all my adult life and never ran into a situation where I was afraid of being in danger.hunting at night by yourself is the best experience you can have. Along about 300am you start to feel like the only one left. From 300 am till daylight is a peaceful time to be out.
