We don't know you or your Hounds. You talk like you know "Come here from Sick-em".
If you have never had truly broke Hounds, and I bet you are being humble and have, then an investment in some of Tri-tronics fine products would seem to be in order.

As I have said in many posts Dad's pack always has several "young" Hounds and up to two "started" Hounds. These Hounds are the ones I refer to as Broke in Broke Company.

At any given time Dad will have from 5 to 10 that will hit the tailgate if something barks wrong. Hipshooter on here as seen this himself.

As to not running with others, Trashy Hounds are but part of the deal. As Big N Blue so eloquintly put in a post last spring a Bobcat Pack to be effective must be like a "Well Oiled Machine". Each Hound has a specific role to play and the others know and trust their partners to do their part.(the offensive football team analogy) Strange Hounds don't not want to "honor" other Hounds and more times than not when a bad Loose happens a "Cluster .....", happens and the Cat is gone. This might not be the case where you hunt but darn sure is here in the Southeast.

As to Rig strikes that can not be moved, in FL we are blessed with sandy roads and can find Ole Shortails track most times to verify the verassity of the Hounds announcement!

I just gotta say "amen" to that. We dont get to see Pete too often, but I sure like it when he comes out of his cave. I swear, he must be the Tibetan Monk of the hounding world. The first rig i ever had was with a 9mo old cameron! good cold nose but not real gritty! She liked it good enough though to climb out the box before i could get the truck stopped!I had an older broke rigger with me and he never made a peep!She didnt rig hard at all! but I learned quick with her to watch for the dancing and whinning and eventually might get up to a squeak!She may never be the gritty,fast,loud bear dog im looking for but i trust her over anything i got to "say the Word" just as long as I keep the radio down!

David,You are right on about Pete . Pete is the finest houndsman I have ever met BUT his real talent is in the way he talks about hounds and hunting. He comes out with the best one liners and comments I have ever heard from a houndsman. Sometimes I have to think real hard about what he says before it sinks in and I understand it.Then, it really makes sense.

His all time best in my book was when he had told me about something strange that happened during a bear chase the previous day. I said "how could that happen " and his reply was " I dont explain it ,I just report it ". Classic Peteism Thats my all time favorite hound saying.. ( other than the " I looked at 11 bears " line from another guy on here )
