Rooster,

You nailed it there! A ton of them here as well. Drive by their house some time or check out what their wife is driving or how their kids are doing. Most likely not a pretty sight. But yes they will beat you to the track and usually they get so famous with their circle of screw ups that they get younger screw ups to run the tracks out for them, load the dogs, shovel the snow, and chain up the truck if needed and push. Oh and they better bring beer, food, and if they are really nice and work on the the old lady's car he may even let them shoot a female or little cat out sometime to put on their wall.

Whew!

i work construction so i get a lot of time to hunt from thanksgiving to the end of the season and it is not by accident, but if the economy gets any worse and i had to pick another trade i would love to work for lni as a claims investigator. there is a guy on my road that has harleys just built a new house and his wife works and he hasnt worked for 15 years, he is about 40. he could help stand walls and pack roofing up on the roof but his back is too bad to work. how the hell can he go out in public and hold his head up high enough to look anyone in the eye???

labor & industries. that is why businesses pay so much for it because people take advantage of it. but when someone really does get hurt they practically get starved out before they get anything, go figure.

Are you talking about unemployment?
Around here it only pays 1/2 of what you normally make.

We are going through our own lion hunting issues here in the west.A few years ago we had our quotas cut by 75% or so on females and more on males.
At that time we all felt the lion population was stable if not increasing.
We saw many females dragging around triplets and doubles and had no issues finding a track to run.
Today after 5 years of reduced quotas it is more and more difficult to find a track and we see fewer females and large litters.
The age class of the toms is coming up(although there is no data on that)and I think that is where the problem is,the toms are mopping up on the kittens.
We hear of young tom lions that have been beaten badly by another tom lion and hear too about kittens found dead in the brush.
All things considered it makes sense to me that we need to harvest more toms and let the population grow again.
We too have problems with hunters taking the females which is not necessarily a bad thing. The trick is to fill that management strategy at the end of the season not at the start.
That quota is set for a reason by the game guys,if it is not met at some point they will assume there are no lions around and cut you back even more,is has been suggested here.
Things I talk about here are for the local area,I can not speak for the rest of the province.
The game guys also added a new fly in the ointment by allowing any land owner to legally shoot a lion on their property! That has added about 25 lions to the human mortality list at this point,be interesting to see how that shakes out!!!!
Does all that make sense?

Eric. I do not believe the Landowner issue is A big deal. It just brings out into the open what was happening anyway. At least there is A knowledge of how many are going out that way. Instead of the shoot shovel and shut up mentality that existed before. Also been proven that capture and relocation is rarely A successful alternative. In season or not if there is one standing in my yard lookin like it is sizein up my kids or my livestock for lunch it is not gettin out alive. At least it is legal for me or anyone else to protect them selves or their property just the same as it is for any other predator on private property. As A side note those landowner cats are not kept so there is no real value to the landowner.
