I also thought of making several passes with the curs and Jagds on a normal hog hunt to see if the dog pressure would be enough to encourage her to move on down the road.

I guess it is time to release more info. This ranch is a childrens camp. The people reporting the screams were totally seperate groups of campers. THen the owner heard it himself, I am not sure if the auadad were gutted or shot and left layed(most likley) they are shot here like hogs(vermin). The cat was seen in the day in camp with the kids.

It could certainly be a fox if they scream but I tend to believe the owners first hand information that SOMTHING is screaming. I assure no Tequila has been involved.....LOL

I doubt the cat is any threat to anyone, I figure it pushed the deer out not killed them all.

that would have been good to know from the start. i would not leave it alive in a kids camp. For some reason, some lions can't resist children, it is documented in their behavior during attacks on children and observed in their behavior towards children at zoo's. If it has been seen in camp with kids, i would kill it.

I learn something new everyday I didnt know pockys would scream I guess just never heard anyone talk about it. But back to my post of hearing the lion scream it was the lion in the tree and was a scream the kind that makes your hair sorta stand up. Only ever heard it the one time. later, Andy

You are correct they are exotic. A trophy Ram can fetch up to $3000 dollars with good clients.

However on another highfence ranch just a few miles from the Childrens camp they dont have Audad, they raise trophy whitetail but at times either over or under the fence Auadad break in and can be seen in herds of up to 60 at a time. just a few audad can wipe out a protien bulk feeder in a night, these feeders are filled with Protien feed for the deer and cost as much as $2000 to fill, a large group of Audad can tear up several thousand dollars worth of feed and break the feeders in one night.

I agree that shooting them as Vermin and not darting or netting them seems ignorant, if I get one in my hog trap I can sell them for 200-$700 dollars depending on the horns. But that is how some ranches opperate. They can be extremely elusive and hard to find if you are looking for them.

So lets not worry about the few dead Audad I mentioned.

I still dont see the cat as a large threat.

However I was going to try a hunt tonight and a group of 400 kids are arriving throughout the evening and there will be lots of activity so it will have to wait till next week.

When I get the OK I am going to try calling with the Jagds in the box and then make a few loops with them on the ground. I will let yall know if anything comes out of it. The cat could have already moved one, who knows.

a female lion well scream when they are in heat. had one as a pet for alot of years.

No sweat, Audad are funny critters. Some ranchs praise them and some despise them.

I have only seen a few in the last 6 years of hunting this area but it seems when they are there thick. I have also had to fix their damage.

I think they are also known as Barbary Sheep if you want to look them up.

The cat was (if it was the cat) was heard screaming 2 weeks apart 3 times in a row. So she has been heard for 6weeks now.

No new sign in the last week. Hogs have been desolate also but seemed to return this week my scouts have reported.

That will give me reason to get out and cover some ground.

This place is really speacial for Texas because it has year round springs that flow even in a drought and types of vegatation and food sources for game that doesnt exits on other ranches. If I was a Indian I would live here!

Was at a zoo in Phoenix a few years back, on the female lions pen, they had posted a sign, that more or less said: If you hear her scream, don't be alarmed, she is just in heat. Her way of attracting potential mates.

This might explain how Toms find sows in heat, I have always wondered.

About 10 years ago me and 2 other guys went on a weekend archery hunt and the first evening close to dark this thing started screaming between camp and where we were glassing. (About a half dozen screams) We all decided it had to be a cougar, it didn't sound like a woman more like a house cat amplified 10 to 20 times. About 3 AM it started screaming again we could plainly hear it from inside our tents seemed to be only several hundred yards away but then again might have been a lot further away??? Needless to say we didn't see any game the next day. I never believed people when they said they heard one scream until that day. I told 2 different hound men that have hunted cougar all there lives and they had never heard one either and I could tell from the expressions on there faces that they thought I was full of shit. I never heard anything like that since but I guarentee if someone ever hears something scream like that he will never forget it.
