Keeping them all together is by far the best thing I've ever done for my dogs. No more barking because they are bored. No more sore feet because they're feet aren't in shape. One, 8 foot long dog box they all use and keep nice and warm in. One water bucket to clean and fill every other day. No picking up crap twice a day. And best part is the dogs are healthier, socialized better and not bored every day sitting in a kennel or stuck on a chain. I only run males because I don't think this setup would work with males and females together. Also if you have aggressive dogs, it probably wouldn't work.

Dean,

There was a certain man claiming he killed an 11 foot lion, down here in AZ, by the name of Weldon Hopman LOL. He had the same set up you did, but the signals in his brain shorted before they processed the "no males AND females"

Kinda hard to sell registered pups for over 1000$ a piece if you can't say who the parents are lol.

Sounds like you have a good set up, I bet you could make a really cool pen if you wanted, dig a ditch that can have water in it that goes to a pond to let them swim, dad and I had that in one of our puppy pens.

so where is the size difference between a kennel and a pen/run come in at ? is a 20X 20 a kennel or pen? back to topic its 25'X30' enclosures for me can't stand chains unless in camp. I have seen to many psychotic hounds on 15' chains to me it makes them way to hyper and hard to calm down and go to work. this also cause males to become more territorial noticed it in females also. the main reason is the behavior. chaining can also make a dog less responsive to a lead.

I kennel all my dogs because everytime I chane them up the first half hour off the chain is insanity! I do have trouble with dog fights over food though. I just figure I'll let them sort it out.

I hope you dont hunt with many other people.....probably gonna have the same problem with the meat in the tree. Either end up with dead dogs, or dead dogs and no hunting partners

I have done all of it in one fashion or another. Back in the day when I kept 30 or so hounds running bear I had a lot of them on chains and had no problems. I really like dogs chained if they have adequate room at leat 10 feet of chain and no obstructions, proper shade and warm, dry comfortable house . But these dogs as well as those in runs must have adequate excercize or you will have problems. Well them damn hounds bark all the time! Really how long has it been since these endurance athelites have had a good hard run? Oh well I took them out a couple of weeks ago but I been busy but damn they do bark. Cry me river! What do you think they are going to do stand there and shiver all that energy off? No they gotta have running time. Even the stupids AKC will tell you about these types and what they must have.

I have a hound barn and all of my dogs have seperate runs but they socialize and excercize daily with each other. There is one alpha dog here and it is me. And I am the law north of the Pecos and they all have to learn the rules abide by them or the $hit is going to hit the fan and it is not going to be mine. I love the idea of a big pen full of happy puppys ( Dog Whisperer style) I am no Ceaser Milan and I am also not fool enough to think males and females in an unaltered state are going to live in peace and harmony when the alpha is setting on his a$$ watching the TV. If you got that one figured out you better run for public office.

Hound dogs need, food, water, shade , warm sleeping quarters, plenty of excercize and a little love and affection doesn't hurt them either. But you can't just poke them out there like a tool and expect much, and you also can't let them run amuck and not expect a visit from the county sheriff. I get a kick out of it when the local dog catchers come by my place. They can tell me where every hound hunter in the county lives and how many mutts they have. They ask me why my hounds are not raising old cain and getting me in trouble. I tell them(I hate rude behavior in a hound , I won't tolerate it!). LOL!
