My mom grew up in jeffery city at the split rock ranch. I didn't ever live there I lived in riverton down burma road. I have two pups one is almost 7 months old and that is the one I have been hunting. I then have a pup that is just 4 months old that tags along if I am working with my older dog.

There's a lot of good advice in the previous responses.......and as you can tell, a lot of different ways to start a hound on bobcats. I've never had a problem starting a hound on lion then switching them to bobcat, except that bobcat are much harder (way less scent and a lot more stamina once they're jumped). I've never had much luck with drags with lion scent. I've usually started my dogs on cat by turning them in with 1 or 2 older dogs. However, I've always had a good amount of coonhunting on them before I do that. Bobcat hunting is advanced work for hounds, and a lot of hounds don't cut it on bobcat.
Here in Wyoming, the bobcat season ends the end of February, so next year is going to be the time to start your dogs on bobcat. That gives you a while to get them going on easier game.
I live a bit north of you (between Buffalo and Sheridan). Maybe we could get together sometime and talk dogs and training.

Bill,
That would be great to sit down and talk with you. Are you in the story area? Any time you have for a cup of coffee let me know I don't start to work until april so I have time.

How long ago has it been since you're mom was on the Split Rock, I talked to a women there back around 1993-1995 ( can't remember the correct year) that new my Grandparents when they lived in Rawlins?
If you happen to get in Riverton this spring or summer give me a hollar and bring you're two dogs, I'll take one or two of my slower dogs (two help you're pups) and go chase a coon or two...may as well bring you're rope horse and well rope also.
