I have been with him a few times and he is nose to the ground but going a lot faster than my dogs or my friends other dogs. He scans and goes and goes and then he just goes out farther and farther still nose to the ground.

is he starting tracks or just moving has he been on the game your after? although i don't like it and have seen some bad things come from it if you have a good solid dog that handles super well put a dog harness on it and then neck the new hound to it. I don't neck to hounds together my preference but if you can control one it might work for you. and use a tracker. I once got a call from a old houndsmen that necked his pups together now he's 70+ and was out gettin some time in problem was both pups were wild as hell no manners and he couldn't keep up. he looked for two days before he called we went up and spent all day and finally found them after dark one was dead the others back was broken. I don't know the cause of the situation but it made up my mind on necking hounds. there are better and easier methods to training hounds now. It may have been necessary before e collars but those situations and chasing hounds all over the mountain probably where the catalyst for the technology.
