Hey Paco wasnt tryin to be a butt----. I did try a freinds marshall out the other dy, and did get a better signal on my dogs than I could with my old FL MN 10. but when we went to put it up the atenna broke :( . So he is without a tracker right know because he had to send it back. He said it wasnt the first time and that they had a quick turn around. Should only miss 10 days of hunting. :D :D :D

Reason I bought a Marshall in the 1st place is I used a wildlife back when i was young, Also used another both were owned by a friend that hunted. We never had the money for tracking system in the 1st place, 6brothers/sisters, Mom/Dad.....Dad side get out of the truck and listen and get to the tree as fast as you can before that dam dog leave again. About 4years ago went out hunting with a guy that had a Marshall and since I don’t have any kids I need to buy a tracking system and had the money,...... I seen 1st hand how the Marshall work and knew it was better then WL....So I drop some $$ for 10 channel, 4 collars, case and got a great deal from Marshall, They sold me the unit $450 cheaper then my friends system plus they overnighted. Cool.

Now I use it allot and have only 1 problem come up, Dam dogs like to chew. 1 antenna was chewed up bad, Since it works with no issues, I shrink wrapped the antenna and still working today 4 years later, I can see a person in a hurry end up hitting the Arial antenna and busting up. But I have not had a problem yet. I also once a month make sure the screws are tight and all is in working condition.

Marshall Tracking System

Post by dllhoundcompany »

For Longshot!

Here is a picture of my Marshall Tracking System its a 10 channel 216.000
Image

The collars a little beat up as you can see! They work great just got some tube shrink wrap too, wrap and fix the antenna and help keep the antenna wrapped to the collar. I change them out once a year! Except for the orange collar as you can see it has a black shrink wrap it was crewed up by jumper.

My thoughts best unit on the market little more cost but will worth it. When you order your unit call Marshall direct they will set you up and do you right. When I talked to them to place my order in 2003 I got added 2year warrantee added to the collars *4year*, 1 of the 3 collars free, Deluxe Cordura Holster, Overnight shipping all free of charge. It never hurts to talk it will save you money in the long run!

Right out of the box worked great and never had a issue with the system. (Knock on wood) I had a dog lay up one night and I don't not at the time have a training collar on her. So I had to go in and get her. She was laid up about 400 yards off the road and under the river bank. She found a nice spot to sleep! Thought she was dead since she did not move for over 30min, here she was sleeping.
And this is why I like the collar modes,
Tree switch one pulse every second
Running Switch one pulse every 1.2 second
Rest switch one pulse every 2 seconds

Once you work with the system you can get really good at understanding what your dog is doing.
The receiver only took me 5min to get uses to it. Right out the box working for me! I can now figure out what my dogs are doing when they are out running around! And I gotten really good at how far they are from me.
Last weekend we were watching the dogs run down the road! 1 of the 3 dogs split off into the woods. He will not open on track so I knew something was up! I stop the truck and got out to listen the other 2 dogs kept running up the road. Next 5 mins I heard a dog bark and the other 2 dogs came back running! by this time 10min gone by! the 2 dogs just sat and look at me and was thinking he's running a skunk I not going! Next few min my wife keep asking when are you going to check his position. Well it had been 25min and the other 2 dogs went off in the other direction by then! and I pulled the tracking system out and just turn on the system. Found him straight in from the truck. Signal was very strong! I could tell he was running around in a small area. Right then his tree switch was going off :P and he started to tree! I looked up in the big tree that was in the area and 2 eyes were looking right back at me! Told the wife see he does not have a skunk. But next thing I had to do was check for the other dogs and changed channels to check and could tell the other 2 were about 200 yards down the water cannel and they were running wide open back to there brother! next thing we had 3 dogs singing.

Longshot If you lived around me I would invite you out for a hunt and strap on my collars and have you test my system out! this goes for anybody if you live or around RR, NM area and want to test a marshall feel free to drop a PM.

Not meaning to be sarcastic, but for the price you ought not have to bargain for a holster. It ought be included. Kinda like the Ford F250 I looked at on display high thirties and you still needed to pay 150 bucks for an adjustable steering wheel. For the price of vehicles these days the only thing you should do is cross off what you don't want, not add on what you do want. Anyway, another topic another day. Paul Conway.

I have the Field Marshall, It has a pistol grip. I just figure I would never use the stealth 100 channels so I would save money for other dog crap as my wife calls it.
How I got the Padded Cordura holster from Marshall was I had the same thoughts as you Paul Conway. I told the guy kind of stupid to sell them separate and it should come when you make a big order like I did! He agreed I guess and decided to give it to me!
as you can see it does have a pistol grip!

I got it from Marshall and the holster came free, without bargaining. One night, we got done hunting early and I went into the supermarket, forgetting to take it off. It was strapped to my leg, pistol grip hanging out. A supermarket clerk called the state trooper stationed across the street! LOL He thought I was going to rob the store! LOL Luckily the trooper knew me and we all laughed. But, take the holster off before you go in for coffee if you want to avoid trouble!
The system works very well, but I did a minor problem with it: To switch the collars on and off, you don't take out the magnet, you just pass a magnet by it. This is more convenient than the usual method, but if you store your collars with others that require taking the magnet out (my light collar, etc.) you can accidentally turn the Marshalls on and wear out the battery. When they're in the back of my Jeep where they may be jostled, I store them separate from my other equipment, problem solved.
However, until I figured this out, I went through a lot of batteries!
The other minor problem is that it is a little confusing when the dog is very close. There have been occasions when a dog was hiding close by for whatever reason that it seemed a lot farther away. You don't usually need a collar for these situations, but it has sometimes taken me a bit to realize the dog was hiding under a truck, rather than way far away. : )

How easy is it to switch from one collar to another with the Field Marshall compared to the Stealth? Is the Stealth worth the extra money if you wont use the extra channels?

I have gone thru a few batteries for the same reason! But figure out what was going on and keep the mag out of reach of the collars during storage!
Also use the best batteries out on the market! I use some cheap batteries since I get them free but when I go to wisconsin I buy the good ones! 8)

Field Marshall you have the channel pre programmed in from the company. It just turning the channel switch and then use the fine tune to lock in the best signal. It is that Easy!

Stealth switching from channel to channel. I don’t have or even used the stealth but figure it’s got to be easy enough. Figure you just dial in the one of the 4 MHZ band and use the turn knob to adjust for XXX.015-XXX.999 what ever the frequency you need!

I decide not to go with the stealth since the most I would ever run is 10 dogs at one time! And that would be 5 more then I would ever own in RR. That is why I purchased the 10 channel and if I ever need to expand all its cost is $125 to add 5 extra dog collars! Besides my wife already said if I have more then 10 dogs she would leave me. and take her 3 dogs and the tracking system!

I would say if you own a kennel and/or you are an Outfitter and hunt for a living the stealth would be worth the money. That way when you have friends that guide for you and come to help run dogs, and of course they have there own dogs you can just pick up the stealth and program the dogs in and off you go. The stealth does have a nice feature Recall once you programmed the number in..

Remember allot of time your signal will sound further away if you are next to you truck! It’s made out of metal and will interfere with the signal.
Try this we had a dog out and he laid up. The one guy was using his WL and he keeps getting the signal strong 25yards in front of him! I got out my FM and I told him his dog was down the ravine. He keeps walking till the signal got really strong and ran into a sheep fence. It was made of heavy metal and his signal was traveling down the fence line! He went south and I went north. My FM was getting stronger and stronger as I walked north! He keep say his signal stayed the same. So he turned around and come to me! We found his dog about 100yards away! The dog could not get thr the fence so he laid up next to it and fell a sleep! This was about 5hr into the night. So take a look at your surroundings hunting grounds and make sure you don’t have something that could mess your signal up. Use the Range and Filter switches it will help you out!

I put the magnets in my Wildlife collars. Check to make sure the magnet hasn't gone bad and then forget about them until the next time I use em. Simplicity and ease of use- dummy proof and that's what I need. Paul Conway.

Yep Paul Conway your right. Put the magnet in and forget about it! Only problem is I have been with a couple of guys that lost there magnet. They would end up buying 10 magnets a year to replace them! Easy enough to do but kind of sucks when they use the last one!

My collar gets turned on when I first got the system. Due to the fact I would keep a magnet clip to the holster and store the collars with the holster. Well no longer really have that problem. The magnet is keep on my keychain and extra in truck and 1 inside the holster and have not had one get turned on by storing then all together

But to each there own :P
Number one thing about the tracking system is it work for the end user! The simpler the system is the dummier we are  All that matters is we can count all of our dogs at the end of the night! My father still thinks I could of bought 4 more dogs for the price I paid for the system :P
