I must be one of the very fortunate ones as well. Got a whole yard full of 'PR' bred, even titled "Coonhounds", that put up a lot of Bear for me. I have some that are damn near 3 generations of 'PR' Big Game hounds too!

To each there own, you just have to know what your looking for in a dog, and then find it. You can find just about any type or style of dog in just about any color, line, breed, grade or purebred - you just have to do your homework, and then know what to do with it once you find the answer!

Unless I read it wrong, that is exactly what he said, don't buy a dog that is advertised in a magazine and don't buy papered dogs and dogs that weren't raised for generations as big game dogs are worthless and don't send away for any dog through dog hauler or air. These things make me question Bigfoot. There was a lot of thought and effort that went into that posting and I think many good thoughts, but it was very black and white. I agree whole heartedly that the buyer of any hound should do their homework and puppy mills should be outlawed, but condemning a whole group for the actions of a few doesn't bide well with me. I know of too many dogs that came out of the people Bigfoot warned against that are top, top, top big game dogs. Crappy dogs come from everywhere and anywhere no matter how much homework you do.

Folks,

Bigfoot is probably a big boy and does not need defending! So I won’t, however after rereading his post several times, viewed in its entirety, there is merit to be found through out.

David and I have had lots of fun over the last year about “Sweeping Statements”. Bigfoot may be being found Guilty of what appears to be these at first glance however in most cases in his post he lists “Qualifiers” before making such statements.

I found very little for anyone to be offended by in the post and lots of good info for most folks. I sure wish Folks would not be so quick to throw darts at some others. We know very few people on here so we do not know what sort of baggage from the past posters are basing posts and counter post on.

Below are some of the discussed sentences from Bigfoots original post with some of my comments added or highlighted.

"Do your homework! Hunt with the dogs, see that they are really producing results in the game you so desire to hunt. You can’t make a Cat or Bear dog out of a coonhound.(note Bigfoot does not say a “Coon or Treebred Hound, he says clearly “coonhound”) Take your time picking out the right line for you. I prefer line bred dogs with minimal outcrosses."

"Remember most “SOLID BREEDERS” are approached all the time for their breeding. They rarely have to advertise their dogs."

"Bigfoot’s sentence naming Hound Breeders ended with this…there’s more, I’m just not remembering their names"

"You should avoid shipping by air and dog haulers to get your pup or dog. Do your best to pick your pup out yourself. This way you can see his kennel, dogs (sire and dam)."

Probably this post won’t change anyone’s opinion of Bigfoot and his Post but this makes me feel better! Dad and I definitely agree with Floridacathunter: it is OK to disagree… but not nice to be disagreeable!

Just Our Opinions!

I would like to appologize to bigfoot if he felt I was throwing darts at him. I do not disagree with the gist of his post. I have purchased dogs from a few of the people I mentioned and have had great success with them and have also seen many poor quality dogs(culls) come from unpapered "proven big game dogs". Papers don't mean anything other than being a documented history of that dog. I feel bad for bigfoot in that he has had a bad dealing with a couple pups, but every new hound man or woman should know that we all go through that in our pathway to becoming a successful one. We all get rid of more dogs than we keep.
And I can't help but say that any dog who gets on a plane must have a health certificate from a vet. So if you do have one flown in, call the vet who does the health cert. to verify and make sure they worm them. If your worried about false papers, have a DNA test done. I'm sure Mike Kemp, Devin Staker and Jeff Allen never lie about their pups geniology and are always worm free and above all, alway make good dogs.
