ive used both a 30-30 and a 12gauge 3.5 inch with 00buck and they are both very deadly with a well placed shot. shot placement is way more important than the caliber a shot gun should not be used for a beginer on bayed bears

I have seen people kill bears with both but i have also seen people not hurt them with both  . I use a 444 or a 7mm mag my friend uses a 8mm for hogs and some bear 12ga slug is great 30-30 is great to so i would use witch ever one u are more accurate and put your faith in and trust they both would do great but pick the one u are better with. GOOD LUCK :D

i've taken moose, bear, deer etc with a 30-30 more than enough knock down power!!!!

30-30 is twice the round that a 12 gauge slug is.

With the new Hornaday Leverammo the 30-30 with their new 165 grain bullet becomes a much better choice than it used to be.That new ammo is loaded hot and will kill any Bear at the range your going to shot at.Buy two boxes of the stuff, practice with one and hunt with the other you won't be sorry! :D

The 30-30 would be my choice. im not a bear hunter but ive taken ALOT deer with a 30-30 when i was younger and i dont know if i ever had some run more than 20yds most just dropped dead. the 30-30 would be better choice if the bear was on the ground also because it decreases the risk of a pass through which could hit a dog. with that being said the 30-30 has more than enough power. my granddad has told me stories of way back in the day when his dad and granddad would go bear hunting with a single shot .22 and thats you need anyway one shot behind the ear.
