I would not believe there were even rivers in NM!

LOL jk. I went to NM a few years ago and a young fellow actually hunted his GrNtCh so I could experience coonhunting in NM on a horrible weather weekend (no one else had showed up it was so bad) we were along the Rio Grande and it was as wet as any river in OR  Bad enough weather nothing was moving, but I sure appreciated him going out so I didn't have a totally wasted trip to NM.

In a boat would be something. You just pull to the bank and let them off the chain when they open like off a truck?

Libby, it is a blast. But rigging for strikes is almost to easy sometimes. The only hard part is knowing what side of the river their striking. I like to dump em before they get struck and make em work a little harder. If I can find someone to pull an all nighter I like to park two trucks 10-15 miles apart and float through remote country all night. I've caught a dozen coon in one night hunting this way. I would of never got this pic if I wasn't in a boat.
