I've had plotts for over 15yrs and i never have problems with them fighting...People say plotts because they know they are superior to the other breeds!!! What breed is the most growely or alligator
Re: What breed is the most growely or alligator
From what i see cross breeds walkers blueticks blackandtans....Reason plotts get the bad rapp is because there there own breed.....They didnt come from the same foundation of dogs there rest of them did!!!!

Re: What breed is the most growely or alligator
hahaha nobody likes my answer except Cold Track. So that makes us either stupid or smart and im not sure which.
I say this because ive seen it happen to my dogs. I dont toleralte fighters/alligators and never keep the ones that do. One summer i was chasing alot of problem bears caught 30-40 bears in the summer. My dogs were tuned in to bears and fired up. My normally mellow non-fighting dogs turn into some freakn alligators and would start fights at a drop of a hat. Same pack of dogs on lions never got that way. My theory is they get to fighting them bears and baying them on the ground and the dogs love it. I had a few different old time hounders tell me the same.
Im not saying running bears is going to cause all dogs to be become alligators but if a dog has a slight tendency towards it, bears will bring it out more IMO.
Ive seen fighting problems in all colors and makes of dogs, cant say one breed is worse than others

Re: What breed is the most growely or alligator
you can put a stop to the fightin easy, if that sob starts growlin in the box break out the hot stick and apply some heat. about 10-15 times and he will loose the attitude. we have a plott that would fight everytime we put him in the box with the other male dogs, that hot stick fixed his azz, now he is one of the best dogs we have.

The reason people say plotts is due to the fact that when two dogs mix it up and one of these dogs happen to be a plott, its usually the plott dog that comes out on top... I guess that make him the alligator...

Dang right....

Seems like the dogs get way more agressive...

Re: What breed is the most growely or alligator
We owned a Cameron Bluetic male that was the meanest animal toward dogs and people we ever saw.
None of our Plotts were mean towards other dogs, but that is the law around here, you even look at another dog wrong and the wrath of Greg Anderson came down upon you.
I am a firm believer you can have a litter of pups, sell the whole litter to other people, and get mixed reviews, on everything from hunting abilities to dog fighting.
Dogs aren't born being 100% trash born, cold rigging, dry ground lion dogs, they have the raw materials, but they have to be smoothed out and finished.
Plotts get a bad rep because of their build, strength, and grit, and the fact they have the hardest heads on the planet. If I was to put my money on a dog fight between a lab and a pit, I would go with the pit versus just about anything.
My dad's old Sky dogs was built like a Plott, or maybe even a stout Pitbull, and he knew his place, he never fought at the tree, but if a young pup was in his spot in the dog box all hell would break loose. Sky never killed any dogs, he knew when to stop, he earned that right.
Bonita which was a daughter out of Sky, was the best female in the world to train the young males with. Dad would back the truck up right to the bedroom window, stick her and 3 or 4 young males in there, and when they sniffed her you knew it, and dad's exact words when describing this was "She was the meanest SOB in the world, she hated younger males"
Besides that one Cameron Male, Shag-Man we had, and our German Shepherd Brahma, we didn't own any dog fighters, but again, it wasn't tolerated at all.
My pitbull, Nasty Nazareth, weighs in at close to 100#s. He eats about 12 pounds of fresh trout a day, fresh as in they get scooped out of the hatchery tanks, and they die somewhere in the process of being ripped apart and swallowed. He would get drug around the pen on his back by my moms Doberman his whole life, Naz was specially trained to never bite a dog or human. He never defended himself against anything. When people see him they get very scared and wonder why we have him. dad and I packed him, in the dog box with our hounds all the time, never heard a sneeze out of any of them. Naz went to one tree, and in the chaos of it never even touched a hound.
Naz is a freak example, when you get to know him you imagine him in a huge field of daisies surrounded by bees and butterflies listening to Lady Gaga. =)
I don't think it is a breed, I think it is the dog and the owner. Some dogs are just mean and they can't have it taken out of them, others are fatties that sit on the couch all day and wouldn't attack a MilkBone.
Dogs are like people.

Re: What breed is the most growely or alligator
Nikki i got one thats too lazy to chase a milkbone! LOL
and i got one too stupid to know he can be mean..looks like i'm doin alright
to be honest i've never really seen a hound that i automaticall thought, "wow thats a mean son of a bitch" but then again i probably aint been around nearly as many as most guys on here
i dont even know why people start these threads, just like people ALL dogs be it hound, pointer, poodle what have you are different..unless you guys got packs of cloned dogs out in the woods huntin for ya theres no way any two can be the same...
and just think about it, how can anyone real generalize how every member of a breed of hound acts? sure you can give your opinion based on past experiences or whatever but this is just one of those topics that can run around in cirlces cause theres no deffinitive answer.

Re: What breed is the most growely or alligator
well this is a pissing match. So guess I will dehydrate. I would have to say plotts. I've had them I've like them but I can't stand to have to tie every dog in the box. I also can't agree with "they will finish the fight", The old saying that the white spot on chicken sh?? is chicken sh?? too. If they fight their fighters. But there are fighters in all breeds and most lines. I don't think fighting and agressive dogs are the same. Most fighters will not fight something (bear) it can't whip.

Re: What breed is the most growely or alligator
I have no idea which breed is the growliest but I do know which breed I have seen it the most in and thats Walker dogs. Probably cuz I been around 1000s of them and only a few here and there of the other breeds. I've heard alot about Plotts being rough and this and that but I aint seen them be nowhere near as rough as some of the Walkers I have seen. I aint just talkin about attitude either. I have seen some Walker dogs that were damn good at fightin and could kill a dog and would.
Gentlest breed I've seen though were Walker dogs too but they were running hounds. Never seen a breed of hound so docile with each other. I've seen them boys scoop them dogs up and toss 20 strange dogs together in a box after a field trial and not a damn thing happen. I take them shit eatin Julys I carry to the pen and try to put 3 of them in the same size box and WWIII gonna kick off. Strange to say the least.

I to have seen it in all breeds but I have to agree with PPP I thinks it more of the owner than the dog.I mostly hog hunt now (no bears in FLORIDA ya right)but IF I do have a dog fight at the bay i'll be looking for thew one that started it and do away with it.This is one reason we take turns turnning out until we know how our dogs are going to get along.

Re: What breed is the most growely or alligator
We had 3 tree fights in one year, one of which killed a dog. All three of the fighters were littermate brothers. Lipper bred walkers they got rid one of their own and we got rid of them.
End of the dog fighting. Amazing what an extra ear hole can do for an ill dog
.
We have had only one fighter since. He was a dog we had on trial. A Sackett bred walker.
We typically have 5-10 plotts at the tree 2-4 black and tans. Not too many walkers anymore but do run the occasional spotted dog with no problems. Where we hunt it takes hours to get to the tree sometimes and it is not an option to have a growly dog.

Re: What breed is the most growely or alligator
Dogs are a pack animal as any canine from wolf on down. they are on a pyrimid system from the alphas on down the latter. they have to earn their spot on thaT pyrimid and they do it by dominance. if you don't think your dogs fought or growled their way to their position, your blind! don't think a challenged alpha will hessitate for one second to defend their position. they battle for dominance for thier possesions, breeding, food, etc. that tree is a posession to them. In my experiance you just teach the dogs from an early age, that you have 0 tolerance for it. kinda like you do with trashing. dogs that are disaplined for trashing fighting barking etc will probably always naturally want to do it. but the lessons you teach them make the bad behavior shorter and more easilly corected with time. I also think the more gritty and aggressive the dog the more growlin and fightin that's gona go on. my personal experiance with it has been my plotts and bluetics are more aggressive so intern more growley. so I kinda gravitate to say that beardogs or hog dogs would probably be more likely to fight under a tree than a pack of rabbit chasing beagles. from what I read, plotts have a small percentage of pittbull blood in them and love em or hate em pits were and still are bred to fight. not trying to rile up the pitt or plott lovers, cause I am one. but you've got to use some common sense in this one. grittier and more agressive dogs are gona have more tendacy to fight and growl. well, that's just about it, I'm sure I'll get shit on for this one, but it's my opinion.
"Houndn'Ems Blueticks" if it smells like a cat, they'll catch it.

Re: What breed is the most growely or alligator
I have ran plotts for several years now and have never had one problem with them. All you have to do train em right and teach em who the alpha is. Plotts have absolutly zero, none, nada pitbull in them. They are plotts and thats it, a breed of their own. They are bred for bears and thats what they do best in my opinion. With that being said, What do you need to put a bad in a tree? GRIT and plotts have just that GRIT. Its not a bad thing at all. On the other hand all the mean dogs I have seen are walkers on both people and dogs. I have seen on two different occasions people get eaten up. And I cant count how many box fighters. So you cant even give a walker dog.
if it aint plott its all for not
