I think that they hunt just over the mountain from me,maybe we'll run into each other. I had one on the ground today and got Willie stove up he's my only realy experienced older dog other than Rooster who's 12 years old. Thats going to hurt.

It's been a rough go as of late,Willie got tore up last week and is going to be out for at least a couple weeks so I've had to depend on 12 year old Rooster and a bunch of young dogs 3 and under. Thank god even a blind squirel finds a nut once and awhile.lol Rooster started the track and went about a mile and a half before I could get any dogs in,I turned in Duke Bonnie and Alley. They ran a couple of miles and Rooster and Alley got behind, Alley has been out for 5 weeks because she was in heat. I could tell that Bonnie and Duke were close to the bear and I turned in Sissie and Big black. They all screamed up over the ridge and treed on the other side.I waited for Rooster and Alley to show up on the track and grabbed them up. We drove around the ridge and they were treeing good, thankfully they were only 500 yds off because my hunter has MS. It took him awhile but he finally got there. He was exausted so he had to take a break about 50 ft from the tree. I decided to walk in to the tree to try and keep the bear up while he caught his breath. We walked in and took a picture of the bear and started catching dogs and the bear started to come down.I ran at the tree and hollered at the bear but he jumped so we turned the dogs loose and they treed him again in about 50 ft.This time we took the hunter with us and tried to get him ready for a shot.We started grabing dogs and the bear bailed again. They treed him again in about 100yds.We new our luck was going to run out and my hunter was also running out of steam. We got him to the tree this time and he was able to close the deal. 175 lb boar.

My hunters cancelled on me this week so I didn't hunt until today,I ended up with a day hunter. We had a bait that was hit but the last picture of the bear was 8:25 last night so the track was about 10 hrs old.Rooster started working it out and I turned Willie in and they made good progress. After about a mile they crossed a road so I turned in Duke and Bonnie And picked up Rooster because he was already a ways behind. They went about another half mile and jumped the bear. They had it on the ground the rest of the day. We saw the bear 3 times, the first time the hunter missed, the second time we didn't get out in time to get a shot and the 3rd time he flattened him right beside the road. The dogs on the bear at the end we're Willie,Bonnie,Alley and Duke.

The hunter and his bear 215lb boar.

Short video.

We are still finding a few bears out and about. I had a day hunter on friday and we were able to tree another one.It was a ten hour old track but Rooster took it out fairly well. He cold trailed about an hour and jumped the bear before I could get anything in to help him. I turned in Bonnie, Duke and Willie. Bonnie and Duke caught Rooster in no time and realy put the pressure to him,Willie caught Rooster and got ahead of him but he could never catch the young dogs. Bonnie Duke crossed a road so I got up there and dumped in Black and Sissie. They tore off up the mountain and caught the other 2 and soon after that they treed. I waited in the road and caught Willie and Rooster when they came thru. It wasn't the biggest bear probably 115 lbs but the hunter only had the one day to hunt and he was happy so I was to.

The bear in the tree.

The hunter and his bear,he shot it with a 38-55.

Bonnie,Duke,Black and sissie. Duke got bit in the face but he'll be fine.

Oh the trials and Tribulations of hunting Black Bears in Maine .

last ten days have been very slow. Treed 6 this season ,let them all go ,Most in the 150-180 lb range . 1 yearling kept running the swamp all day most times in a circle
My son shot the only one we "BAYED UP " this year Dressed out at 270 lbs
I can say from legitimate sources that only 1 bear was tagged that went over 375 lbs dressed shot by a bait hunter
All in All a great season No lost Hounds , Very minor dog injuries , NO emergency trips to the Vet
