This is likely the last one that I'll trap for the season all of the wolve this year were caught in a small area where we lion hunt.
Maybe we'll see a few more lions in the area with the pack thinned down ...very little sign this winter with the pack in the valley.
The weather has warmed up and they are breeding now, with the end of the trapping season Feb.28th they are pretty safe till next fall.

Most all the wolves I have caught this winter have a mite and the hair is so poor on some I haven't skinned them , I threw them out after showing them the the G&F...
Others are so so.
I get from $200 - $350 for the good ones, if they are tanned for taxidermy, maybe a bit more.
These timber wolves are not the quality the Arctic or northern wolves are, so prices are quite different...

Brent: What specific areas are you talking about when you say Northern Wolves ?

Are the mites a yearly challenge ?

"Gang set, meaning at least two or three sets on the good locations. Wolves are pack animals and the chance of a double or triple is very good. Sometimes I believe the best trap attractant is another animal in a trap."

Couldnt agree with that more. i trap for a Pest control company here, set a few traps nice and close and if there is more then one animal curiosity peeks, it works awesome for most critters. I havent trapped a wolf in a couple years as fur prices are shit, but ive found if your trapping in wolf country coyote urine seems to work pretty damn good. I buy that stuff by the gallon for work so i always have it kicking around. I trapped for a winter with my friend up north on his trap line and we had 3 different bait locations in his line. we found a few nice clumps of thick balsams in the summer and cut channels to the center of it and baited it all summer fall and winter, then when we were ready to trap we hung snares on the paths in to the bait, seems to work good but i found that they get pretty wise to it. Brent you sure know your stuff! good look wolves! you guys would get better prices out there than here, western furs always go for more... Do you send them to North Bay Auction house?

Back to top for the guys looking for tips on wolf control. Recently got certified here in Idaho, class was very informative. Got the Alaska Trappers Association book & DVD at the class. Watched the DVD, good information, makes some things easier to understand being able to see it demonstrated.
