Thanks Sawtooth!! He is a Irish Terrier, they are like a midsize Airdales, very smart a little crazy, that one in the picture is 9 years old, has been a awesome dog, have not hunted him, but there are not to many mice, voles, gophers, cats, magpies, racoons that get past them, I am really impressed with my hound so far also.

Ah !!!!! 20 in the House With My Wife's 20 Cats ... Usualy everything goes quite smooth except when a bitch comes in heat then the Studs get Very Grumbly and the females are kenneled ..

We have "Mouse holes" cut in some doors so the cats can excape if something goes wrong.. But they will tree every cat their is when were hunting ..

All the Hounds at this moment are being Hunted in a Rotation on Coon .. Bear season comes in 3 weeks from now where they will be hunted 6 at a time ..

They all handle very well and will hunt their hearts out for you ..

I had a puppy buyer once that was horrified to learn that the pups were in the house. I could tell by the change in his voice on the phone when I mentioned a pup being in my lap. He was suddenly uninterested. At that point I wouldn't have sold him a pup anyway.

My first bluetick slept by the fire at night and went everywhere I went. She housebroke herself. She was a pleasure to have around. She got to the point where I'm sure she understood a lot of words. If she heard a truck door open she was in the bed before you could call her.

She'd hunt all night in 20 degree weather and was the best hunter I've ever had. She's what sold me on blueticks.

My two redbones sleep in the bed with my husband and me.
Coonhounds have their drawbacks as house pets--they're big enough to pull things down from high places, and they're inclined to get on tables if not reprimanded regularly. They will raid the dirty laundry for "toys." They like to rearrange the blankets on the bed and the pillows on the couch. They drool when they watch you eat... Nonetheless, I wouldn't have it any other way.
One of mine is a good bear dog, the other a decent coon dog, both will chase bobcats or housecats. They hunt in weather colder than I want to hunt in (I don't hunt much below zero), although their fur is a bit thin for lying still outside in below zero weather.
Both ride in the truck cab with me if I have room for them up front. They're extremely affectionate pets. My housekeeping standards aren't that high, but the dogs are pretty well self-cleaning. An hour after a hunt in a swamp, they've usually cleaned themselves off pretty well. A quick toweling off is all they need.

I have a plott that I got as a pup whois about a year now. he can be inside or outside (he sleeps inside but is outside the rest of the day). He can be a pain in the butt, especially when he isn't hunted down. Compared to his brothers and sisters, he has a great handle and I rarely use a leash when I don't pull him from a tree. He doesn't have alot of the problems some of my others do (kennel barking, grabbing food from my hand....) but if he's wound up, he will jump ontop of anything he will smash into things...

He has stared to rig out the window of the pickup. As far as hunting hard, I had to hold him out a few weeks because he got knockd around by a bear and cut one of his eyes. I brought him along in the box just cause. When I turned the pack loose, he through a huge fit in the box and was ramming his head against the door. I finally just turned him because he was going to hurt himself more in that box then in the woods. That same day we had a bear on theground and he had a mouthful of hair. Him sleeping and spending 1/2 time in side doesn't seem to have hurt his ability or drive to hunt and I enjoy him and my redtick in there when they get a chance to run and don't just wnat to bulldoze everything in the house!

i use to let my oldest hound sleep inside for awhile. and it was great. he would still hunt, and i have a great handle on him. but he just got a little to domestic for me. what did it was we were roading the dogs when it was in the 20's and he tried to jump back in the truck to get warm. so hes been outside ever since. and hes a lot tougher now. and i think a better hound that he is back out side. but if i just had one dog. and i just coon hunted like once a week or something like that. then i would let it inside.

Ha, I am right there with you on the housekeeping standards. Some dogs are allowed in and some have been 86ed. All the sick or injured dogs get to come in. I know they are healthy enough to go back outside when they start raising hell in the house. The pups get to come in occasionally. Pups have free run of the property until they are big and brave enough to wander off and cause trouble, then they are on a run as well. All of my dogs are pets.

This is really strange to hear so many with hunting house pets.

i never raised dogs in the house.
Kennel dogs only.
When they were taken out of the kennel it was game on.
They were ready to go roading or hunting.
They seamed to really enjoy roading, even if it was just to get in shape for the big race.

We have bumped a few skunks in California.
Now what do you tell your house guest?

Its good snd bad. i have a english red tick i let stay in side. and he is spoiled but the hunts better and harder than the hounds i have outside. the bad side is if or when something would happen to him. its harder to deal with something like that. i love all my dogs but it different when he is around u 24/7

I think the biggest difference is not if a hound is in the house, but if the houndsman spends his time out working the hound. Amen
