That is a great looking tom. Few questions... when you say that the track was a couple of days old, and the track was blown in, how long did you trail it until the track got clear? Do you guys follow the hounds, or use tracking equipment to try to short track them through the canyons etc? Do they normally trail up to a kill somewhere along the line when you start a couple day old track?

And just for the record, i don't think hunting on dry ground or in snowy conditions is easier one way or the other.. each have their challenges, and it's like comparing apples and oranges... kinda like comparing a BC tom with a southern AZ tom...

Just curious.... but again, that's a great lion, congrats! Someday I'd love to hunt in Wyoming for one of those bruisers...

AZD , thing is you are being lumped in with the dry ground hunters mentality in general . Most guys that hunt dry ground or very little snow have no Idea how hard a snowed in track melted out track or a frost track ect... is .It is easy to look ignorant when one does not have the experience.
Also very easy to be mis read intentions on the INET .

We trailed the lion for about 5 hours until it started to clean up. We cut the track at the end of the road heading into wilderness country, so we had to take the heel toe express from the getgo. I usually leapfrog with vehicles or sleds or 4 wheelers but this time was the real deal on foot all day. He didn't make any kills, but he was hunting FOR SURE. I know there's been a lot of talk posted on this thread about dry vs snow, and I'll tell you my two cents worth, I as a snow hunter hold the dry ground hunters on a pedestal. I'd give anything to be able to mule up and grub out some old stuff down south. Heck, I used to do the very thing up in this north country until the #$%^ wolves were re-introduced. Snow hunting can be VERY difficult up here as many have said, but hey it's lion hunting........THAT'S WHY WE'RE ALL HERE!!!!
