I believe Dale Burnside sold his weems plott Rigg dog to the Japanese for forty thousand dollars. It kind of comes and goes with any commodity. Supply and demand Japan didnt have dogs that were bred and trained on bear. The bears they had were eating people on a regular basis. Dale probably could of asked for more and they would gladly have paid it.

I talked with Steve one time and it seems to me he mentioned selling a dog for that kind of money.. He also told me that Henry McEntires famous hound Newt came from him is that right?

It would be easy enough to find out, Brett. It would make sense, since Henry bought his dogs instead of raising them, and Larry had a dog that looked just like Newt.

I have heard rumors that these PKC coonhounds that are winning hunts can go for tens of thousands of dollars. I think I read once where I guy offered $60,000 for one of those champions and was turned down because of potential stud fees. What do you guys think? Are the rumors BS?

I'm not sure how much that guy here in Cal. payed for Famous Amos (redbone) to get him out here but he got him. Then after he got him I have heard he was offered $20k + for him and he turned him down and gave him to my buddy for free. Thats just it dogs are worth what they are worth a $10,000 dog to one might be a $50 dog to the next guy. I find it funny when someone always says boy if that dog can do that then its worth way more then that and to one it might and to others not. I had a Plott/Walker cross that a guy tryed to buy off me 20 times. His first offer was $1000.00 his last was $6000.00 to me that dog was priceless funny thing is 2 yrs later I gave his son that dog and that kid hunted him till he died.

I've seen plenty of guys wearing out a $40k pickup a $10k four wheeler burning $100 a day in fuel, hunting with cheap dogs and not catching game. I swore Id never spend big money on a dog but this past year I bought a few for what I consider good money and havent regreated it at all. Any one starting out I would suggest buying a good dog to start and let them train you and your pups. I started with inexpensive pups but lost my good dogs to a lion two years in a row and didnt want to spend years getting a young dog going again.

I think this is great advice to a younger or new hound hunter. Dont worry about all the fancey stuff, worry about having GOOD DOGS that catch game. Old CJ Prock said good dogs are always worth good money, and they pay off. I believe he was right!

Very good point I have spent some good money on good dogs a while back and I dont regret it a bit I was catching game and my youngs dogs picked it up fast, I wasnt out all night looking for dogs scattered all over hell that were chasing deer. I believe the fastest and best way to train a pup is to run it with dogs that know what they are doing.

I wanted to breed a female to Gene Hicks Three time Albert dog. He said he had a female lined up every day that week and wouldnt breed to more then one bitch a day. After some Coaxing he agreed to breed to our female. 250 bucks a day in stud fees add up pretty fast.
I sold two males to timber chopper kennels in Virginia for $3000. apeice and I know he made money off them.

It's not a hound but 18 years ago,my boss was having a hard time making bills. He was a retriever trainer and he had a 20 month old yellow male Lab he put up for sale.A gentleman flew into colorado springs and we picked him up and took him out and my boss ran the dog through some different series of test.Long story short, the dog went home with the guy for a price of 20,000.I know because I was given the check to put with the daily tally to go to the bank.I was just a kid and didn't realize money was spent like that on dogs.-Shawn

There is a lot more money to be made with Labs. I know a guy that makes about $50,000 a year in stud fees. I heard of the dog that won the worlds tournament a few years ago sold for $200,000. I never saw the check so it is just a rumor I guess.
