 the state should make it illegal for out of state hunters to kill females, and i dont agree with the new quota,it will make for less lions for sure we should call and complain and pray for the snow to go away for them guys who need it will stay home and watch foot ball !

Arnold don't say things like "pray for no snow". Hell I will never catch another lion if it stops snowin. I will just become a fox hunter I guess. Since thats what I run best in the dirt.

I can kinda understand the outfitters that kill females, but what blows my mind is the hound hunters that are just out there for fun are killing females.

Houndsman continue to be there own worst enemy!

Well with the new quotas for next year the season sure wont close early.

I just got started in this game and I don't like it at all. I'm keepin one or two dogs to be my buddies on hikes and thats it maybe coon hunt a little who knows. I don't have the time the money or the friends and cousins/alcohol and drugs to keep up with most of these guys.LOL I thought things would be different this year after the early closing last year. WRONG!!! Oh well most guys out there deserve to catch what they catch and more power to them.

Big Mike,

Your comments sort of puzzle me.( I can kinda understand the outfitters killing females.)

Well maybe I can understand it because most of them never think past the rent bill and I guess like the state of New Mexico they think lions are an ever re-newable resource. You don't need females to keep producing lions to hunt you just wiggle your nose and there they are. LOL!

Well at least one thing is for sure you will get to stop by and say hello to more of us down in the Burros. LOL!

outfitters? should be held to higher standard?

rookies? seems most of us, myself included at one time, feel the need to load the back of the truck with fur to feel accomplished. Some learn better. Most don't.

Jeff...sorry so many females got whacked in your area...sucky
Arnold...super bowl sunday is coming! best lion hunting day of the year! or bobcat  depending where your at

look at it this way boys, if you were here in utah the first 12 females would have been killed and the hunt would not end. then twelve more would get killed before the quota closed thanks to the fact that we have 48 hours to report it and then after it is reported it takes the fish and game a day to update the system in the mean time more lions get killed. I take clients out, and I charge them the same weither they kill or not up front. I discourage them from killing females but when the cat's in the tree it's really their choice. I encourage them to wait for a big tom and those that listen usually leave with just that. I think there's a few bad apples spoiling the whole bunch on the outfitting end of it. the other thing that has me mind boggled is that there are some units that if you kill a female the hunting sucks in there for a few years and there are other units that get absolutely hammered, overkilled, females, yearlins ect. and the next season you can still go in there and harvest mature cats. there are many factors that are out of our hands that affect the cougar population, just be glad you have the female sub quota.

Mike, i didn't say i like it or agree with it, but I do understand why outfitters kill females. Most just don't care but a few do. And the ones that do care still get in position were its hard to say no since it is a legal lion. Thats what I meant by i understand.

Mike I need someone to teach all the honey holes down here so bring your horses and come on!! I have not got to hunt at all since i moved, my dogs are so fat they couldn't catch a lion if it was piss'n on them! hahahahaha
