Do you have to update the collars or can they just be left the way they are if they are working fine, we've never updated anything don't know if that's bad or good just wondering if you have to.

You should do the updates as they are to fix known issues with the software. I can see where the if it aint broke, don fix it theory would apply. Yet, if you ever have a problem, and need to get them fixed. You will have to update them before getting an RMA from Garmin. As perhaps the updates may fix your issue. Not always the case though.

One wont even turn on anymore, so I'm sure its fried. Steve thanks for the heads up on computer problems also. I dont think i will be doing favors anymore

I feel bad enough i junked his collars, now my laptop is at risk, LOL. Steve i agree dealer support is everything. Being an early unit i will ask him, I doubt he would even know, as he is from the older generation. Heck, i got a hard enough time remembering what i had for breakfast

Let alone being 72 years young. See what garmin says today, I've been around this game a long time, and seen all the tricks, yes, i will keep going up the ladder, thanks for the advice.

On the collar that has a solid red light, try holding the power button down and then running the update collar software. Turn the unit off, then press and hold the power button in and keep holding it. Then have a friend start the collar software update. If you accidentally let go of the power button in the middle of the update you may need to try it again.

To update, garmin has given a warranty on these collars, as they worked fine before the update, but happy to see they stepped up to the plate, and made it right.
