The grub thing depends. Here where its cold (and we get way below zero alot), I feed some of my bigger hounds less than some of the smaller ones. I think the bigger ones might be more efficient with their body heat?

for the most part i run bears around that 7500 to 9500 foot mark, and my dogs don't seem to really matter with elevation, but then again thier blood stream is quite abit different then our own, as for big dogs, my dogs usually way 65 but got two war horses that are around that 80 pound mark, and the one with all the heart can go farther then some of my little dogs, i think the conditioning and heart of the dogs is all that really counts, we got what we call orangutan bears, those ones that just go and go, and if you got dogs to last the race your finaly tree them five to ten miles as the crow flies from where you turn loose and as soon as you get to the tree, the little bugger will jump and the chase is on again, all day long usually

Its all based on personal preference really. And elevation doesn't mean anything if an animal is conditioned for the area it huntins in it won't matter if its high or low. In my opion i argee it all depends on the dog and his drive and grit. Size don't mean jack. But one point was brought up. The big boys do take a little more feed. But when u love your dogs like i do its just like rasiein your kids. Don't mater what they look like or how fast they run. As long as u taught em right and there doin it right. who cares what someone else has to say about there size. I catch bears lions bobcats, em in the woods every chance i get and love doin what i do. So in all it just depends on what u want in a dog what u get in the dog. That makes a good dog. I Don't have to catch 100 bears a year to brag about and say i got good dogs.
