I agree with Brents advice feeding several types of food. I don't think there is one type of food that will give your dogs everything they need so mixing several types and supplimenting it with meat are important. I mix several types and also add meat every day or every other day. I've been feeding two types of Diamond. I give clean water every other day and lots of fresh straw year round. Excersise is probably the most important to a hounds longevity. Sitting in kennels for days, weeks and sometimes months at a time just won't keep your dogs in healthy shape. I've never had worms in any dog for the past 30 years. Keeping your dog area clean is probably the key there along with where you live. Great looking dog for 14 years old Brent, your doing something right!

I'm sure you have a few hounds in your pack as well that have seen their share of sunsets.
That is only achievable by taking care of them proper and I see far more guys that do not care for them proper than I see that do.
Clean water like you mention is a very critical part of proper dog care, it is vital to help ward off things like works etc. as old and stale water is a breeding ground for paracites among other things.
So offen we forget about how crappy we feel in the morning if we are cold at night because we are sleeping on the ground during a hunt with little under us to keep dry and warm,or from not getting a good meal to keep that energy level up, I know there is no way you could have carried that big brown bear hide back to camp last spring if all you did all season before the hunt was lay around not getting in shape and dining on refried beans and beer every day...
The training my pups and young hounds get from the older ones in the pack is invaluable, when a hound get to that age they have delt with most of the tricks a lion can throw at him.
Proper care allows them to get reach old age and is the cheapest training for a young hound one will ever get.
Wish more guys could reccognise this, our hounds deserve it if nothing else.
